I am suffering through depression and have been for many years. I

weather the stormy days... for when the sun breaks the words, creations,

love and expressions will flow again. Let a flower or a mushroom be your

muse for they will never let you down or disappoint you. I love you RAY!

Something else about resveratrol.

That's a good link, Syd. Resveratrol has many other health benefits as well and not everyone notices the mood enhancement aspect but many do which is why I mentioned it.

I have found, oddly enough, that depressed people will resist trying any home remedies like the ones I mentioned. You would think they would try anything reasonable to get over depression but no, they will make up excuses not to try whatever is suggested. Salvia has worked for everyone I know who was depressed and tried it. Laughing Willow is a member here who has written about it. 5-htp works for many people and has a mellowing influence as well as mood lifting qualities. I urge those reading this thread who suffer from any degree of depression to try the remedies mentioned. Force yourself because I know you will automatically think of reasons not to try it. Try it anyway. Try one thing at a time and give it a good try.

I tried St. John's Wort, 5htp, and salvia and I found that while they all seem to have some effect I never really stabilized with any of them. They seemed hit or miss. I definitely got some relief, but it wasn't consistent.
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

As Stonehenge said, "Try one thing at a time and give it a good try.", it is best do do one at a time. I've known people to try a few remedies but what actually happens is they double dose or they combine certain meds without waiting due time in between each session. Do the research, but meds do help a great deal. Not necassarily Rx but meds in general.

Syd, that is very true. JRL, I'm glad you at least tried a few things. You say they seemed to work to some degree but you apparently quit using them. Does something have to be perfect before you will keep using it? Go back and use them again if you still have symptoms. Some relief is much better than none.

Personally, between salvia, resveratrol and 5-htp I have no problem. The salvia seems to help in ways the others do not. I use it only every couple weeks or so. Just use a small dose, enough for a tiny buzz but not enough for a trip.

Actually they were of value because they pointed to chemical imbalances, prolly related to brain damage from years of heavy drug abuse. And to answer your question, I think that nothing is perfect, but some are better than others.

Though I know a lot of you don't like them, ssris have allowed me to get my self on a much more even keel. Now after a year and a half I am considering going off them to see how I am without. A combination of meds and work with a great therapist has certainly helped my situation, I have put to rest many issues tht I had never dealt with before.

It's like I used to filter everything through my issues, there was this blur zone between me and everything I encountered. I was constantly second guessing my perceptions, from basically a paranoid point of view. Getting out from under that has changed everything.
