Quote from: "roach"Hey lets have some kind of contest here at SPF. I will donate some seeds and a spore print. Will anyone else donate anything? Lets do something like the best article or something like that. We could do one once a month. Just a thought. Let me know what you guys thing.

roach, I think it's a great idea:  best article, best tale, best link to enthnobotanical site/resource, best propagation technique, etc.

I'll pitch in on prizes:  let me sort through my hoard for a day or two.

We could run a contest thread with a one member/one vote poll at the end to determine winners (which would also promote community involvement).  If they were judged contests, perhaps rotating the contest through each mod's section (with a section-appropriate theme) would keep it from being too cumbersome for any one mod.

Anyway, I'm in.  Feedback from all and sundry on this notion would be nice.  If our pitch falls on deaf ears, roach, let's just do our own thing (hey, that's kinda catchy!)...

Good point, WhiteLandsEtc. ;)

I have been thinking (ouch!)...a few notions:

1.  One contest at a time:  we don't have the membership critical mass to run more than that yet.

2.  Two week submission period:  a month is too long to wait for a new contest, and a week is too short to produce good work.

3.  Contest thread opening post could define the contest, folks could pledge prizes during the submission period, and then a member poll could determine results.

4.  Let's start the contest in the Long House:  within the next few days I'll post a contest announcement and a prize pledge.  For the following two weeks, folks can post entries and pledges.  After two weeks, I'll post a poll for a long weekend to determine the winner.

Whaddya think?
