I'm looking for some advice on rooting Salvia in rockwool cubes. Two weeks about I took 10-12 cuttings and stuck them in rockwool cubes. Most of them got stem rot and died. Anyone else have this problem?

Possible causes of failure:
dirty tools,hands, containers or water
lack of air flow around plants and work area

I've never used rockwool, but have rooted in various other media, since 2003.

I currently use local garden soil, with perlites and compost added.  Healthy soils will not let anaerobic bacteria get started, while sterile enviornments, such as water or potting mediums, are like a blank slate, and get out of balance pretty quickly.

People use air bubblers with cuttings in water, and that method seems successful.

I've lost wheelbarrows full of  cuttings too,  when I used dirty gloves and tools and tried to process them too quickly.

best wishes
