X. Torris

Author Hunter S. Thompson Kills Himself

Like him or loathe him, he was one hell of a weird-ass and author of some extremely funny material.  Everyone remembers him as "hey that was the guy who took all those drugs and wrote 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'" but I think he had a lot more to offer than as just a counterculture foot note.  I still think "Hell's Angels" is one of the better anthropological works ever written.  It was a shit way to go out, and I'll miss him.
What I need is a strong drink and a peer group....

The American nation is in the worst condition I can remember in my lifetime, and our prospects for the immediate future are even worse. I am surprised and embarrassed to be a part of the first American generation to leave the country in far worse shape than it was when we first came into it. Our highway system is crumbling, our police are dishonest, our children are poor, our vaunted Social Security, once the envy of the world, has been looted and neglected and destroyed by the same gang of ignorant greed-crazed bastards who brought us Vietnam, Afghanistan, the disastrous Gaza Strip and ignominious defeat all over the world.

may his words touch more to come... and beyond

    Cheers Whiteshadow

Sad, it is.
No more letters.

Suspicious somewhat, too.
There must be more to this story.

Maybe after the family mourning is complete, additional details will come out.

Bye Dr. Gonzo  ----  When I first read his Hells' Angel book, I was immediately hooked.  His uncanny insight was great to see flying so vividly off the page....  When I read Fear-n-Loathing, I constantly found myself cracking up, then shoving the book onto others to share the joy...  I first head of his demise at about 3:30 this morning on NPR.  A BBC reporter stated that he was found dead by his son....  At nine this morning, an AmeriKKKan NPR reporter quoted an unidentified Aspen police officer as saying he was found by his wife.....  Seems like there is always some element of mystery/conspiracy when one of "the good ones" goes down, eh??--------  Think I'll do some net surfing and read some of his back articles from places like Esquire and the like.....  Sadly missed  ----------  senorsal----  (reaching for a vial of adrenachrome)

what dya do
when you've overstayed your welcome
when you're runnin on empty
when you've played your best hand
and it's so critically bad

what dya do
when all the cynicism in your heart
leaks into your bloodstream
and even the jokes
curdle your mind

what dya do
when the best you've seen
is the worst of banality
when your words
hit bottom
and your mission shrieks without a voice

whatdya do, man, whatdya do
when even that karmic law
of return
seems better than what taunts ya in your mirror

whatdya do

ya end it
ya just end

Where the hell was his attorney at the time?

Surely he would have advised against this.

But honestly and sincerely his madness will truly be miss't.

P.S. - You're taking this awfully well Dent. I recall you are a huge fan.

I am just waiting for burial so I can go back a few nights later and dig the body up.

The family plans on shooting his cremated remains out of a canon.  Presumably to stop Dissident's "investigation".
...and as if from the inception of time itself I realized I was and had been for sometime, elsewhere, elsewhen or somehow, quite seriously, otherwise...
