i'm in this Ki-Aikido class... its a non violent martial arts (almost 100% self defense) thats based on guiding your attacker's energy (as opposed to reversing it by kicking them in the head) to keep yourself from harm, but also keep them relatively safe.  It focuses a lot on what it means to "relax completely" and finding your balance in your lower abdomum and unifying the mind and body.  i'm starting to get the hang of it and its pretty neat stuff.  when you relax and keep control of your emotions and keep your body and mind as one, people really can't hardly touch you.  but when you tense and try to use brute physical strength to control or move a person, you easily lose your balance/grip/cool head

i've noticed more since i've started this class, that people are way to driven by resistance and confrontation and competition... many times its not even over sensible things.  just aimless resistance or going against the flow just to show you can.

i was with some friends a few days ago, and i allowed them to try salvia under my supervision.  seeing them tense up inside before it came on, i couldn't help notice that its entirely to similar to the failures compared to the phenomenons i've seen the masters of this KiAikido perform.  They say their trips are usually of someone grabbing them and holding them back and wrapping them up and not allowing them to move.  they generally end up reaching for random stuff and swatting at the air until it wears off, leaving them confused.

I've had a trip or two like this, so i can say i do know what its like, but i've since learned to relax and let your mind and body flow in a continuous circuit of energy.  i think this is certainly a healthier way to live in general as well.

has anyone else seen a strong corelation between these sorts of things?

You pretty much summed it up there.
