It's been over two years since SPF Radio returned to the airwaves, and it has been on the air 24/7 for most of that time. When there is not a DJ spinning live, there is a backup stream going, so there's always something to hear, and it's usually pretty good. We have several regular DJs including myself & Fuzz, as well as a couple of people from the old WTF Radio at Disinfo.com chat. There is a website-- http://spfradio.yage.net/ --which is linked at the top of the SPF forums as well...

As part of a longstanding desire to further promote the radio to the SPF community & the world at large, an idea has been floated about making flyers for the station and posting them in cities around the world where SPFers live. Fuzz has volunteered to make the poster and then put it online for people to download, print, and distribute at their local cafes, bookstores, clubs, wherever. The point of this idea is to promote the SPF community; the flyers will contain info about the radio, forums, and chat, and hopefully bring us new folks to all these places in our community.

Fuzz and I were hoping we could find people here willing to print some posters and put them up in their local places. We'd like to coordinate this effort and keep track of where SPF is being promoted, and if the effort is paying off. We want to make it world-wide if we can!

Please reply to this thread if you are interested in getting involved. And everyone should keep in mind that the station can always use more DJs--and that it's on the air right now!! You could tune in and hear something really good at this very moment

How to listen:
You can connect to the radio with most players that support streaming media.  Go to http://yage.net:9000/listen.pls for the High Quality Stream, or http://yage.net:8000/low.ogg.m3u for the Dial up User Stream at any time to see what's playing at the moment. Otherwise find "Open URL", "Play Location" or similar in the menu of your player and type in: http://yage.net:9000 or http://yage.net:8000
You can also check out the weekly schedule with descriptions of most of the shows and links to the playlists.

so once Fuzzy creates a kickass SPF Radio poster, with links to forums and chat, who is willing to print some up and put them in places near where they live? i've got Seattle covered, and Fuzz/Satori live in Denmark, but with everyone else involved, we could cover the globe with promotions for our community! hands, people! i want to see raised hands...

as cenacle says, the radio does need more DJ's. so for any of you that want to come and join the djs team, get your pluggin and start streaming the funky tunes going through your head. this is a great way to share your music and spoken words with others, and a great way to just have a good time and hear new stuff.

here is a couple weekly shows ideas:
-  speech/lectures show.
-  a dead head show.
-  a comic show?

any more ideas or show takers?

also, i'd like to thanx all those that make this possible, on servers side, on eclectic back up stream playing, on pop corn and ideas, on some great shows and fun times:P  :D  :P

cool cassie.

i got a poster proposition here.

now. i have no printing knowledge. so i figured i'd try a 32 bit color image. i also dont have a printer to try this image out. and i also have no clue what people would like to see as such a poster, so i played with some new plants i got.
what size would this poster be? what info should be on it?

      :?:  :?:  :?:        :?:  :?:

Fuzzy, the poster is gorgeous.

I like the idea of "download, print & post around the world," but I'm gonna opt out of participating.

There are no cafes or suitable venues around here, and I can't listen to SPF Radio, or any streaming audio, because of extremely narrowband, frequently-disconnected dial-up service here.

If my situation changes I'll happily post a few.

typonaut--how about the public library, or any place where people gather to hear public speakers? even small towns have places where local events are posted, lawn sales, auctions, car washes etc. think about it :) there is also an 8000 stream for the radio made for dial-up connections...have you tried that? the address is: http://yage.net:8000/low.ogg

several issues regarding this lovely poster:

1) it needs the address for spf forums, spf radio page, spf high/low stream pages

2) i think it should not have the names of specific DJs, since they come and go and i think the ad would last longer if the info on it was to remain timely as long as possible...also, i do not DJ as cenacle, that is simply an online moniker for posting places...i DJ under my own last name...

3) i would like to see the current spf logo, designed by TCG, in there somewhere, esp since we don't have a new one

4) among the genres list missing is rock, which is much of what i play...

5) i think the poster should emphasize the station's global activity, that it's been around since being re-launched in 2003...i'd like to see a poster whose text promotes the station, and the ad for more DJs near the bottome somewhere...

mostly my issues are with the text, a few with the design, i think this idea is great, and am glad someone with your talent is working on it, Fuzzy

here are a couple more exemple of flyers.
i dont have a printer here, so i got no clue what it looks like in print. i got to wait for someone to comment on that to change things.

i got versions of the flyers, in diferent sizes, or with some white ereas to use less ink.

no matter what..people can do whatever they'd like with the images already proposed. eventually, when we find some posters we like, we could make a page on the radio, where poeple would just pick whichever poster they'd like printing out, make some wallpaper for screens even...ahahahahah!!!

Great artwork.

Don't have to print them out to say that they would look horrible printed out on an average home printer. Just the  toner costs would be thru the roof if you're looking to print out a significant ammount. If they were professionaly printed en masse you'd still have to shell out $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

If you got rid of all of that color and just kept it black, white, gray, and another solid color you'd be onto something. Just black and white would be best IMO.  One would still have to invest some to print the thing but it would be much more considerate on the pocket/printer.

yeah youre absolutely correct brown..no one had yet mentionned the cost of ink, or the fact that some images just dont look good printed at home. so i figured, either poeple looking at those images are crazy, or else they dont have a printer. in which case, creating those images is for the fun of making images more than practical purposes... so i had fun:P

so yeah, youre correct. i''ll see about coming up with a poster that could actually be used. if someone else has any images to share...SHARE!

glad you liked the images brown.
i personally think the second image, rave style is absolutely atrocious..i've always disliked the majority of posters created for the rave scene, due to unreadable fonts, chaotic designs, way over doing the "effects" buttons.. so i figured i'd make one of those myself:)
it is fun to make, and is extremely easy.

lets see what next posters bring:)

I would gladly and enthusiastically present a deadhead show and/or a show of musical obscurities/weirdness the likes of The Residents, John Zorn, Harry Partch, strange Miles, odd Zappa, etc. etc. ad infinitum. I have over 2000 CDs. Please let me know how I can help!!!
