I followed the Global Psychedelic Chill Out link until I was offered a trippy dress on eBay...not in my colors, either, and way too short.

I’ve seen that page format before.  I believe it’s a company that speculates buying up expired addresses.

I checked that page back to oingo.com and found Applied Semantics, a co. recently purchased by google.  Their AdSense service says it allows domain owners to maximize income from parked pages; their example format is identical to the present spiritplants.com page.

So I guess maybe for sale, maybe just set up for a small revenue stream.

I found and talked to the owner of the domain. A guy named XXXXXXX.  He said he purchased the domain name at an auction for $260.00 and was trying to recover the old spiritplants data, but has been unsucessful.  He cannot locate Eddy.  Appearantly, the data is on a server in the UK.  He said at this point he would like to sell the domain and would take $400.00 and would like to be rid of it.

As this is a non profit site I don't know if we really want the old domain that bad.  We could raise the money if needed though an auction or something.

Interesting.  So no further data was forthcoming on Eddy?

Also on a side note, I'm not sure I want all of my posts in the hand of a private party I don't know.  This is a strange situation.

Yea, I wouldn't want this site in the hands of just anyone. If someone I didn't know purchased the old domain and tried to start something, I know I wouldnt post there.  If we purchased it, I'd just have it redirect to this site.  About the only benefit in owning the old address is that there are many links on the net that point there and are now dead. (well not dead, but going to an advertisement site)
