I think you're refering to some T. peruvians from which I got a goot three feet of growth in a season....

Alas, I haven't really done any cactus gardening as of late. I have some pups of said cactus I need to cut; we'll see if I can get good growth from them.

So, you're still not giving details? I've been curious for a long time.

Lost my boots in transit, babe,
smokin\' pile of leather.
Nailed a retread to my feet
and prayed for better weather...

There are no details to give really. This is what I did... don't know if it would give similar results. When I pup out my tricho I'll do something similar:

Upon receiving the cactus, I allowed it to set for a spell to make sure that the callus was sufficient.

Once I felt the callus was good, I planted it in commercial cactus mixture. When I watered it I usually used rain water, and I added approx double-strength SuperThrive (mixture of B vitamins and rooting hormone). I used SuperThrive just about every time I watered it.

I used approx. 1/2 strength fish-emulsion as a fertilizer, and I fertilized pretty often. What's more, I would feed it "follierally" (that is, I would spray the column) with diluted fish emulsion a few times a month.

I kept it warm (the house I was living in at the time had a greenhouse), and it got a good deal of direct sun, although not all day long.

And that's it. Just what accounted for the freakish growth is unknown. As I mentioned, I'll try a similar protocol when I pup these cacti (sans greenhouse, as I no longer have one).

Good luck with your spiny friends!

Many people report that well cared for Trichocereus growth can be measured annually in feet.

Large containers and large biomass seem to be major factors, as well as fert, light, water and soil mix.
Never speak your mind nor hide your thoughts.
