On this week's show:

*New Rock Album*: Quilt, *Quilt* (2011) . . . This new Boston band is all sorts of fun, they rock it well, their songs are strange & sometimes even funny . . . they're what a friend calls a headphones band, where it takes that close a listening to lose into their music & suck up all the pretty little details of their sounds . . .

*Classic Rock Album*: The Church, *Priest = Aura* (1992) . . . Surely one of my favorite records of all time, this Aussie band made a psychedelic masterpiece, spooky, pretty, terrifying . . . as inspired an album as you will find . . . this is one to shut off the lights, light up the pipe, burrow into your best comfort, & take the epic ride  . . .

*Storybook Time*: Continuing Epilogue to *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Orpheus & Eurydice: Making the Lyre* poems . . . & this week's featured artists were some of those featured on the great 1970 Island Records rock compilation, *Bumpers* . . . this week, newly jobless, I learned anew the ways that bureaucracy can go from bad to worse without much real effort, or protest from anyone . . . onto a new week, a better one . . .

On this week's show:

*New Rock Album*: Rush, *Clockwork Angels* (2012) . . . Rush makes big albums, no doubt, & every time . . . this time around, they're going for even bigger ideas than usual . . . here is how sci-fi writer Kevin J. Anderson describes this album: "In a young man's quest to follow his dreams, he is caught between the grandiose forces of order and chaos. He travels across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy, with lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life." . . . rock & roll does not get any better than when Rush, like here, it at their best . . .

*Classic Rock Album*: The Lemonheads, *It's a Shame About Ray* (1992) . . . This Boston band had its greatest success in the '90s, with the title track to this album being one of its hits . . . the whole album is a gem, however, worth getting to know or know again . . . Evan Dando's voice is a husky, emotive miracle of an instrument, & he fronts a crack band able to follow many musical paths . . . a short but powerful piece of Art . . .

*Storybook Time*: Continuing Epilogue to *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Orpheus & Eurydice: Making the Lyre* poems . . . & this week's featured artists are more of those featured on the great 1970 Island Records rock compilation, *Bumpers* . . . deeper into the jobless summer, & learning some both good & hard lessons about time . . . & sometimes getting the hours right, & sometimes not, vowing to do better . . .

On this week's show:

*New Rock Album*: Neil Young & Crazy Horse, *Americana* (2012) . . . It's been nearly a decade since Neil hooked up with the Horse, & what do they do? Record an album of covers of old folk songs . . . Sound strange? It works, amazingly well, songs you've heard so many times they don't even sound like real songs anymore suddenly take on a new rock and roll guise, loud, raw, fun, but renewed in meaning as well . . . their roaring take on Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" is worth the time to listen alone, & it sits alongside a whole album of tunes just as good . . .

*Classic Rock Album*: Spooky Tooth, *Spooky Tooth Two* (1969) . . . This bluesy British band flourished for about a half dozen years in the late '60s & early '70s . . . their second album catches them sometimes in jamming mood, sometimes in gospel, sometimes rocking all out . . . it is the kind of great psychedelic blues so common then, & yet resonates wonderfully down the years . . .

*Storybook Time*: Concluding Epilogue to *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Orpheus & Eurydice: Making the Lyre* poems . . . & this week's featured artists are more of those featured on the great 1970 Island Records rock compilation, *Bumpers* . . . Maybe closer to the goal of solid ground under foot again, trying to keep an unwobbling head in the meantime . . .

On this week's show:

*New Rock Album*: Old Crow Medicine Show, *Carry Me Back* (2012) . . . Wow! OCMS returns with their best album yet, hard-driving bluegrass prettiness, & tales of the lost, the obscure, the forgotten, many suffering, but not all . . . they play with virtuosity, heart, warmth, a good sense of humor . . . after some uncertain times for the band, the boys return & they done really good . . .

*Classic Rock Album*: The Posies, *Frosting on the Beater* (1993) . . . This Seattle band's grunge-era classic isn't close to being grunge . . . they rock both before & ahead of their times, as this great, beautiful, electric-high album could fit most nicely in the late '60s, or the late 2010s for that matter . . . slide in & stay a fair while . . .

*Storybook Time*: Preface & Chapter 1 of *The Acid Diaries: A Psychonaut's Guide to the History & Use of LSD* by Christopher Gray. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Orpheus & Eurydice: Making the Lyre* poems . . . & this week's featured artists are a last dose of those featured on the great 1970 Island Records rock compilation, *Bumpers* . . . Got it! Four years plus in the contracting wilderness until just a day ago when someone finally decided I'm worth hiring full out . . . Thank you, Universe, & loved ones along my humble way . . .
