*New Rock Album: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, *Hysterical* (2011) . . . Returning after a four-year hiatus (you can hear their first two excellent albums in this show's archives, check 12/24/05 & 2/3/07 broadcasts), these Brooklyn boys come on strong in their third album . . . there is a strange yet compulsive flow running through this album that sums very likably, and yields more sonic pleasures upon further listens . . . good to have them back . . .

*Classic Rock Album: Santana, *Caravanserai* (1972) . . . The title of this fourth album from Carlos & his changing crew means "an inn built around a large court for accommodating caravans," & there is a sense that they are playing for weary, interested listeners . . . comprising mostly instrumentals, this album consumes the listener with shaped, rhythmic musical power, leaving a feeling of emptiness & satisfaction . . .

*Storybook Time: Chapter Twenty of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist are some of the singers & bands who contributed to the *Kerrang Presents Nevermind Forever* album tribute to the classic 1991 Nirvana album . . . The cool air takes over, the colors shift & shift & shift . . . the closely watching eye still misses most, but not all . . .

*New Rock Album: Deer Tick, *Divine Providence* (2011) . . . Been hardly a year since this program featured this Rhode Island indie rock band (the fine *Black Dirt Sessions* on the 8/14/2010 show) . . . their new album is a rollicking, barroom bash-it-out work at times, but not entirely, featuring also some graceful slow numbers, shiveringly good . . . a smart, fun album, a rocking delight . . .

*Classic Rock Album: Quicksilver Messenger Service, *Happy Trails* (1969) . . . On their second album (this program spun their cool debut album from '68 back on 11/7/2004), Quicksilver just rips the loving shit out of the old Bo Diddley classic, "Who Do You Love?"—and then delivers another album side of trippy-liciousness, just for good measure . . . for those who wonder what it was like to be at one of those Fillmore East/West shows back in the day, tune into this one, the high, grooving shouting crowd feels very close . . .

*Storybook Time: Chapter Twenty of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist is Snow Patrol & cuts from their new *Called Out in the Dark* EP (prelude to their new record coming in November . . . here in the Boston area, and down on Wall Street in New York City, and across the US, and round the world, there is a rowdy shout going on toward peace and justice, the kind those with the big guns and big power and big money just HATE to be hearing . . . and it's a shout getting louder . . . and don't think anything good is going to come easily, but neither that hope and united voices aren't a powerful weapon . . . exciting, terrifying days, the best kind . . .

*New Rock Album: The Waterboys, *An Appointment with Mr. Yeats* (2011) . . . Recently, lead Waterboy Mike Scott realized a long-desired wish, to put his music to the poetry of the great Irish poet W.B. Yeats, on stage, & now on record . . . the result is a sort of Robert Hunter-Grateful Dead relationship, for it surely sounds like Yeats wrote these poems as lyrics for the Waterboys to set to folk-rock tunes . . . a wonderful collaboration across time . . .

*Classic Rock Album: Country Joe & the Fish, *I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die* (1967) . . . Continuing the recent run of shows featuring bands who comprised the San Francisco Sound of the late '60s, come to those rowdy Berkeley boys, who it must be said about foremost had a lot more in their arsenal than dark funny pieces about war . . . great musicians, lyrics hard, sweet, strange, they deserve more attention for their fine, fine music . . .

*Storybook Time: Chapter Twenty of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist is Steve Earle, a great musician who I discovered during his classic turn as a street singer on the wonderful TV show, *Treme* . . . The voices are growing for a better country, a better world . . . join them . . . these days hold great promise if we try . . .
