Howdee-hey....

Back in the day, I had copies of a couple of shows on tape that I'd really like to find again. Scorching versions of "Trucking" are what I'm looking for. One particular show was from Winterland, early 70's and features scorching Jerry solos on the tune in question. Any idea of the show or era in question? New year's eve, maybe?

Thanks in advance.

Why hello there, LW,

I doubt it's the version of which you speak, but one of the best Truckin's, in my opinion, hails from the Broome County Arena in Binghamton, NY from 11-6-77. It was a great year in general, though this particular show is exceptional. The Truckin' is relentless, with Phil bringing home the 'bomb' on two powerful climbs, if that makes any sense at all.

Obviously, that's not the Winterland, but this show is worth a listen. I'll take a gander though my shows from 70's Winterlands, and see which ones I can come up with with Truckin's.

By the way, do you happen to have any JGB shows? I'd love to get my ears on some.

Thanks, mon.

I have a bunch of commercially released jerry shows, but only a couple of bootleg sets. I do have a great duet set with Jerry and John K  on bass.

Have you heard the Truckin on 100 Year Hall, from the 72 Europe tour?

I am a fan of the one drummer line ups. Long live Billy K!!!!!

Hey now, LW and JRL,

OK, I looked through the early '70 shows that I have from the Winterland, and here's what I came up with. They played Truckin' nearly every time they played there, including consecutive nights!

I don't have a Deadbase, so this list is likely not complete (you can tell I have a lot of free time on my hands):

Winterland shows between 1970 and 1977 where Truckin' made its appearance, according to Cunning Platypus:

12-31-70
3-24-71
12-31-71
1-2-72
10-9-72
12-10-72
12-12-72
2-22-74
2-23-74

LW, I can't say I'm familiar with all of these shows, so if you know any more specifics, let me know and I'll try to narrow the list down to a potential night.

JRL, I haven't listened to much of the Europe '72 tour, though I just read this morn that Rhino is about to release a sixty-CD set from that tour. That's 22 full shows, apparently. There's a small article in this month's Rolling Stone about it.

You folks have any Toots and the Maytals, by any chance?
