When I was coming up one of my favorite bands was the Yardbirds. Arguably the first psychedelic band(Jeff Beck thinks so)
they were one of the first to jam(they called it a rave up). In the beggini ng they were a very medium British blues band with some guy named Eric on guitar. When they went "commercial" EC left and was replaced by a guy that is inarguably one of the 2 best rock guitar players to ever live, Jeff Beck.

Soon the drugs took effect and their music got weirder and weirder. They rave ups and the blues and the pop got mashed up with Indian music, old english music, arabic melodies, gregorian chants.

My first LSD trip, I spent a good part ina closet listening to the album Little Games over and over. If there is a better tripping tune than Glimpses(except maybe a first rate Dark Star) I have never heard it.
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

I mostly caught the radio play of the Yardbirds in the sixties. So I missed some of their cool albums, I should get some downloads. I heard the early Beck and Clapton tracks, but lost track after that. I did buy the early Yardbirds stuff in the eighties, tho.

I liked Clapton's turn in Bluesbreakers, too.

And I liked "Mystic Eyes", by Them, tho I never heard their album. Were any of Them affiliated with Yardbirds?

I bought and very much enjoyed "Box of Frogs" in the eighties, a Yardbirds reprise. Good stuff!

Morrison, aw yeah...

Beck was my main interest, I liked the way he took Yardbirds type lead licks to Donovan's pop classics. And I bought all his stuff for decades. He's better than ever, crazy mad shit...

Yeah, Jimi and Jeff...

Saw the turn on a Beck tv show recently, with Clapton dueling. Sorry Eric, Jeff is just too much, even for you...

But having someone like beck or Steve Winwood is just what it takes to get Eric playing. Love to see the old guys gettin down. Beck is still great still very active.  Jeff and Jimi for sure. They invented a language....

In my befuddled mental state;  I read this thinking of the song  "Over Under Sideways Down"... Was that not one of their tunes????   An early band I played in played that at a battle of the bands thing, back in 'da day..  We won the thing 'cuz of that song.  (or maybe it was the fact that we used a strobe )    First time anyone at that venue had seen one being used. :smoke:3  :smoke:3

You're right, if it gets Eric in the mood, it's good. I love the Crossroads festival for that reason. I just wish Eric would cut loose a little, experiment some-he's very technical, I'd love to hear him in a fusion group.  :bcool:

Have you heard One More Car, One More Driver(cd and also video)?
Great concert recording by Eric and his GREAT band. I use it teaching as an example of how great players approach backing a singer.

Haha, nice. :D

The only LP I have and have ever listened to by Yardbirds is Little Games. I will play it now. Haven't heard it for ages.
I will pay attention to glimpses! ;-)
