In a blow to puritans everywhere, CA lawmakers are apparently considering legalization of da kine in order to tax and save the state's economy. They say money talks and Arnold might just be desperate enough to pull this one off.

Makes sense to me. And they didn't even add in the savings from not going after pot growers and users. Those CAMP helicopters cost a fortune to keep in the air.
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

Yea, if the drug war ever collapses, it will be from purely practical considerations, and not some sudden and unexpected outbreak of sanity.

For all the criticism that is leveled at modern economies (and not unreasonably), they at least embody a pragmatism that the average politician lacks...

That's exactly why Prohibition ended: To create revenue to fund the New Deal.

Interesting that they rekkon they'll bring in  $1b in tax revenues, but I wonder what the savings of not having to, enforce, convict ( I guess the lawyers lose out), and incarceration.
So this saving would also be a plus to that Billion.
Although I doubt the feds will go for it....they'll lose too much control...
The only real solution seems to be if the states pull out of the union and take the feds power away for them evil corrupt bastards.

California lawmakers are pushing a bill to authorize an official day in honor of the late-homosexual activist Harvey Milk.
