How do I grow from new cutting?

I'd love to try growing outdoors but around here it gets frosty and snowy in the winter, I'm pretty sure sally would die in such conditions.

I will try as you suggested and take the larger leaves off and see how she does.

grow outside until night temps drop to 40F days to 55F or so.....plants do fine up till then, and varying temps encourages  plants vigour. Mine weather frosts, but not freezes, although roots are OK.

heres my photo set from 05-06, many pics have been posted around, but some OK ones of cuttings, roots, soil etc....Enjoy......patches are still doing well, got seeds and one new strain....Siebert sprouted and named it "Jupiter"

 although full sun  current fall light  due to  10 year tree trimming is a new "test" for flower health.

Yes, I tend to move my plants in after the first few light frosts. A heavy frost will kill them, of course.

The plants pretty much go into dormancy when inside, but I get vigorous growth from spring to fall when they're outside.

I read in another post where someone said it is ok to leave the leaves of SD on the plant when rooting a cutting, even if those leaves are submerged in water, can SD survive fully submerged in an aquarium? Has this been tested, I might test it if no one has.

My cutting is small but it looks okay so far, there is a slight browning around the stem just below the apical meristem, it resembles rot, or bruising but the plant life above this is still green and appears ok. I really hope this is not serious.  

I've taken another cutting and used the same water as the last one thinking perhaps the root hormone from the last will help, there are small roots starting to form already and we'll see how that goes  :e_biggrin:

I have not experienced Salvia in quite a while as I have not felt the desire but I must say, growing it still has it's rewards, it is quite fun.

One never knows...sometimes leaves rot, and cause troubles, othertimes, no big deal.  Cuttings do ok under water, but not for more than a few weeks.  Water must be clean, oxygenated, or replaced daily, or rot will from.  In the wild, plants just break and fall into streams, or streamsides, and root in the soil. I've tried here in SB, throwing 30 lbs of stems into a stream, but PH must have been weird, as they didn't do well, some rooted and I brought them home and potted them. I hardly ever samply my plants...I like growing them as well, trying to get flowers and seeds.  :mrgreen:
