Selling on SPF

Do we want new people coming in and right away selling stuff? I saw a post in the trade forum, the person's very first post and its selling salvia extract. No "hi how are you" or any preliminaries, just went right at it on the first post. Does anyone know that person? He might be fine but who knows? I seem to recall Eddy had a very restrictive policy about selling without buying a banner. We haven't had to raise money yet but may have to later on. It just seems wrong for new people to come in and basicly spam. Are we going to allow all vendor spam or just ethno related spam? How about spam for porno sites? It might be good to discuss policy and to have a policy before we get taken advantage of.

It seems to me that a regular who occasionally offers something for sale would be ok but not spam from new arrivals who haven't contributed anything. Thoughts?

agreed, it is a dubious practice to show up first time with goods for sale...and i wonder at a trade forum being used for commercial purposes at all...trade is one thing, selling another...i hope others weigh in on this issue too...

Yeah, guys, that one smelled funny from the start. I think there is a big difference between friends trading stuff for stuff or even cash and  outright spam.  This one is beyond the pale.

I don't see a problem with the occasional spam in the trade forum.

I'd rather not see vendors spamming the Trade Forum--- but I can deal with it so long it stays out of the other forums.  I'd just as soon leave the decision up to whoever mods that forum.

Ideally, IMO money should be mentioned in the Trade Forum only in the context of "if you don't have anything I want in trade, I'd be willing to negotiate a price" for an offered item.

As far as spam goes; I'd agree that there is a line to draw concerning the difference between other stuff and ethno related things... If things are not ethno related, then I feel that that other stuff is just commercial crap, true spam for gain...       X-T is right that we should hope the other forums are not going to become infected.......  While it might occur that we get spammed once in a while; I'd say that overall it has been a tiny blip on the screen........Not much worry as it stands........    senorsal

the seller who just turned up like that will do him/herself no favours by so doing...
If someone posts non-enthoegen-related stuff for sale my preferrence is that the moderator delete the thread.  Moderators should use their discretion...
I agree with stoney that when we need to start paying for hosting we will have the option of using banners as eddy did to pay for the site and then only  our supporters would get advertising.
