I pestered Owlsley some years ago to get his view on entheogens. However, back then, he was unwilling to share any ideas on the topic. Instead, he pointed out a list of essays he'd written and offered to answer any questions pertaining to those specific topics. Anyway, I just stumbled onto bear's site and found some new essays....

On psychedelics...  One of the ideas that developed throughout this period was that the psychedelics (I still feel most comfortable with this old term coined by Humphrey Osmund) were some sort important hormone -like substance which was necessary to the human race, like the various hormones which the body produces within its structure. Unlike these hormones, there are others, perhaps you could call them "planetary hormones" which the plant world produces for the use of animals, and are part of the Gaia or conciousness of the biomass of the whole planet. Healing plants are part of this category. The ones which alter our state and perception of the universe around us are no less important to our development as enlightened entities than those which heal our bodies........

........I thought that we might just survive and the planet with us if we could manage to get enough people to experience the view which the psychedelics sacraments give. I know that some of you who will read this will object to the term sacrament, but the word is completely appropriate. With the advent of Christianity sacrament has come to be divested of the old meaning and to assume a more ephemeral definition. The magical plants used by folks for tens of thousands of years have been for the most part forgotten. People need to alter their perception of the world around them, in fact it seems to be something done by all animals. In the west there is only two permitted options Alcohol and tobacco. I'm not going to belabor the point, but this "choice" is not something which leads in any way to higher ground.

On global warming..... 1. The Great "Global Warming" Myth

The greenhouse effect is a myth. Extensive and complete measurements which show absolutely NO increase in the average global temperature have been taken over the entire surface of the planet by the Pan Global Temperature satellite, which follows a polar orbit, It and its replacements have been there since 1979. Measurements are taken at a consistent height above the surface, about 300 m, to avoid local variations in terrain. The change it measured is a constant, continuing decline in temperature of 0.01 degree C per year, thus the current glabal temperature is now a full quarter of a degree LOWER than it was 21 years ago. Perhaps the decrease is due to the melting of polar ice. Measurements showing a rise are taken exclusively from the temperate regions, and may reflect the transport of heat on its way to the polar regions. Quite simply, Global warming does not exist. There are so many buffers in the atmosphere that it is highly unlikely to ever happen, even if the so called "greenhouse gas" content were to increase hundreds of times over.

CO2, this important gas is the principle 'culprit' according to the eco-terrorists. The CO2 content in the atmosphere is only a very tiny amount, about 300 parts per million (.03%). This CO2 stays in the air in equilibrium with the CO2 dissolved in the oceans. Since CO2 has a very steep curve of solubility in water, the amount found in the air is critically dependent upon the sea surface temperatures (cold rain falling is an excellent CO2 scrubber). World CO2 measurements have traditionally been based on the levels tested in the air at Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. The charts of the levels fluctuate seasonally, rising in the early summer and falling in the early winter. If the levels are compared to the actual sea surface temperature measurements taken at Hilo, which is at the base of Mauna Loa, the seasonal variations are seen to track exactly with the temperature. Even the gradual increase over time is duplicated in the temperature reading, as the average SST temperature at Hilo has been rising in exact lock step with the rise in the Mauna Loa CO2 levels. (The charts of these measurements are available, making this a trivial exercise if you wish to verify my statements).

Burning fossil fuels is probably one of the most important aids to the life cycle on this oxygen-rich, carbon-poor planet that man can do. Most of the primeval carbon is locked away in the oil and coal deposits formed over the ages by cell death of the phytoplankton (diatoms), which created the oxygen-rich environment by decarboxylating the CO2 in the primitive atmosphere. The limits placed on CO2 are unreasonable and impede the creation of wealth which benefits everyone, and are harmful to the plant life at the same time.....

Good stuff. I found these a long time ago and was quite impressed. Planetary hormones is the best reson why I have heard I think..........
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

Irie LW,
Great post....love the term ECO-Terrorists.....
Yep they never wanted to teach us at school that the earth is on an elliptical orbit of the sun! Seems like they had their scheme/ scam, back in the '70's.... I remember saying back in school,"It's only a matter of time before they tax us for breathing"!!!!
On a next point as someone that had a psychedelic experience at the age of 9. The Liberty it gave me was the ultimate baptism opening my third eye for ever!

And just how does a nine year old have a psychedelic experience?

I had a bad fever when I was a kid that took me on a wild ride...

Wondering around the park..'74ish.....I met some hippies that explained that "Jesus was a mushroom".......showed us what to look for.......& within a hour we had a big bag of right'uns.....we shared with the hippies cos they weren't so good at finding them........
It wasn't till a couple of years ago I discovered the work of Jon Marco Allegro & realized what that was all about.
I was a curious kid & had already worked my way through the bird seeds....first plant an 8 ft Sunflower, second of course was a hemp plant that towered over 15ft tall.
Not sure if this caused me any mental damage apart from having a problem with all what religion & school were attempting to force down my throat...?
