So I'm driving along & I turn at a cross road and this is what I see.....Guess what I thought it was?
100_1893.jpg[/attachment:1yq0zhci]
But then I split open a berry but didn't see a nice groovy seed....this one was round and smooth...So I thought oh shite it ain't.....then I popped a leaf in my mouth and was totally surprised at it's effect.....distinct numbing....
100_1894.jpg[/attachment:1yq0zhci]
So I guess it's on again....
100_1895.jpg[/attachment:1yq0zhci]
Yes of coarse I grab a couple of branches.....here we just stick 'em in some dirt...and they grow....
What do you all think?

Zaka

Irie so here's the seeds...
100_1896.jpg[/attachment:1jq3kvde]
So some of the berries contained two seeds, like coffee but much smaller....others had just one seed...or so it seems??

The leaves and growth habits look like Boxwood...but from the way you're talking, l guess it's not.  Plus, yea... the flowers are all wrong for boxwood...

so what are you thinking?

Zaka

Well I was thinking/hoping....was E.Havanense....
Not beyond the realms of possibility since I'm in the Caribbean.....
But would like others opinions....
Check out link....what do you think....//http://www.plantsystematics.org/taxpage/0/0/79/genus/Erythroxylum.html
Planted 5 seeds, two whole & three half beans....just to check viability.

Irie,
Think it may be sweet lime triphasia trifolia....
Darn....I'll keep searching...

dendro

yeah zaka looks like e. novo, but the flower looks like lime, so??
earth peace through self peace...

Zaka

Well I have got a few seeds sprouted in the Sweet Box mystery plant....and sent a few to Johncactus.
Now I need an id on this acacia, found a small forest of the stuff, with well mature trees.
The flower

The trees
100_1913.jpg[/attachment:vhxpy0zu]
Nice fat pods seeds rattle inside............Johncactus also got a few of these...
I have found on a beach in the north, a few acacia nilotica which have a distinctive seed pod & easier to id.

RedDragon2

Sorry to sidetrack, but is that a Hawaian Baby Woodrose in the back?

Zaka

Irie Dragon,
Yeah I didn't notice it at the time, only when editing the photo....
We have this stuff growing every.
It's either a HBWR or a Morning glory...

Floyd

my two cents is that the first photos are definitely not Triphasia trifolia. T. trifolia has leaves as the name suggest, in threes. Also T. trifolia has rutaceae like thorns.

It looks so much like an erythroxylum species. But two seeds per fruit?

Floyd

What color were the acacia's pods?

The leaves don't show up in the photo very well, but Acacia farnesiana would be a good guess. Its similar in appearance, has large black pods, and is fairly widely distributed in central America.

Zaka

Irie Floyd,
The pods on that tree were fairly slim, turning black unevenly.....have one just sprouted...pics soon..
I have since found at least another 3 or 4 types of acacia....
Sorry the photo not so good...
100_1937.jpg[/attachment:h85xbyvo]
This is another type with fatter pods.( As you said Floyd, is farnesiana)...they were also very sticky with resin....seeds larger than the others....small spines on tree branches.....
I have also found a next type with much larger spines than the others....
It all very confusing??? But there are at least 4 or 5 more types here.
Now It seems that the Acacias & the Mimosas are very closely related...if not interchangeable...this makes me think we must have Hostilis here somewhere....
Does anyone have any info-links on Acacias?? I found this one //http://botany.csdl.tamu.edu/FLORA/cgi/gallery_query?q=Acacia
I'm going up island(BVI) next month for a week, and where I camp is in the middle of some sort of acacia forest....have no idea what species I might find there.....will also be looking Peregina.....
