Growing around a tree of birch I found that these shrooms had been visited by a local squirrel because of the chewing bites on the caps. here are two images, the first of several species I photographed on Saturday with my walker. A shame I was a day later getting the pictures. the shrooms with no chew marks would have been nice.

I also screwed o up the original photo of the small in tacked baby one posted here by photographing to change its name to an abc which is the re sized image, so I accidentally saved the smaller one and lost the large original image.

A few more images from the first of November of the Amanitas, two of the var. formosa  growing next to a Birch Tree.

Again this only permits me to post three images in a box so here is the red variety of Amanita muscaria photographed in a black box.  And believe me when I say this is truly a magnificent and most beautiful specimen.

QuoteTop pics Boomer! What differentiates between A.muscaria and its varient 'formosa' ? Taxonomic jargon allowed if needed.

Basically the difference of a pure red to off-red color tot he yellowish-orange color attributed tot he var. formosa.  However, there are several sixtinct species which fall between Amanita muscaria and Amanita muscaria var. formosa, again depending on their color differences.  Also many different Amanita species can appear next to one another so sometimes I tend to think that the Red to yellow-orange are all A.muscaria, but i am not a taxonomist and could not really determine these microscopic differences form the macroscopic also.

And according to Ott, there are several species which have ibotenic acid and muscimole, including the more potent Amanita pantherina

Sorry for signing mjshroomer it was a mistake, al;though that was my original name at this site when it began years ago.

A few times this site went down and when it was fixed, it would not accept the old names. I went to Boomer, and then boomer1 and last time boomer2.

I use Shroomius Gloriosis at Shroomtalk, where I was mjshroomer before it was hijacked.  Now I sign as sg for the shroomius gloriosis.

I am also boomer 2 at sacredshrooms.org and at lycaeum, again I began there at those two sites as mjshroomer.

I was also mjshroomer at the nook and later when they went down and then switched from Nan's Nook to Nook, I was also boomer2.

I am currently mjshroomer at Mycotopia.net and at entheogen.com.

Here I am boomer 2 and that is probably either one or two times I accendentally signed in as mjshroomer, hence the signature on the post in this thread.

have a shroomy day.

by the way, the nook has a thread that was given to me by Nan as Tales of the Shroom. I have posted lots of scholarly articles by others and me there and some art as originally mjshroomer which are still there, although many are missing photos which were also lost when their server went down years ago and then there are many posts in that same thread under the name of boomer2.
