I'm thinking that maybe the "how to run things" threads are adequate. Gives everybody a place express opinions, if consensus or need for particular direction becomes clear it can be acted on.

I am one of those who are perfectly happy, indeed stoked, with the state of the site. It's so totally cool that it's existing. Yay!

All this discussion has been fascinating to me--I feel that I know some of you better, and I feel really good about being part of this. It's functional--wow. I've been continually impressed by the collegiality, the respect for others, the achievement of consensus, and the openness of discussion. It's like seeing under the hood.

Good job, everyone.

OK, so it's Andy, Nitro and cenacle who are running the site right now?  I don't have any problem with that and am  not trying to overturn anything myself. I doubt that any of us have a problem with it. That's as good as picking candidates and voting on them. My suggestion is to let them be listed with their titles. Up to now, we didn't know who was running things or I didn't anyway. Who has the final say so on things? Is it Andy since he is the site operator? That would seem to make sense.

If I'm out of line by asking these questions, then ok, but I don't see what's wrong with asking. I think its better to have stuff out in the open than make things a secret. Things seem to be going very well so far. I don't think anyone here is on a power trip or wants to dictate to the rest of us.

andy does have the final say, yage is his server that we are being hosted on...which is good, and secure, so no worries there...and andy is a genuinely cool, smart, responsive person, as good a chief dog as any sled could ask for...heh... 8)

Not to stray too far off topic but I think I want to say this and it's relevant.

I would like to envision a future when we have our own website on our own server one day again.  Don't get me wrong, Yage.net rocks!....... I just have trouble accepting that this as our 'permanent' home so quickly.  It's almost like we have been relegated to third shoe charity case.  Maybe it's the though that we may get rights to at least the old web address again eventually.  But what the hell do I know.  Am I in the minority in this opinion?

personally, i am grateful as fuck for irish andy's offering spf a home at yage...i dont think about whether the site will crash or disappear and nobody to contact, and nothing to do about it...i see a lot of willing souls here participating to make it a community, and a site that is growing up again from a bad blow...spiritplants at yage, the forums and the radio, is in my mind a big step of from what we had in terms of security, and administrative responsiveness on the part of the host...

i understand and respect your sentiment, but ask you to at least consider the good fortune that has come this community's way...perhaps something will come along eventually that will present us with new choices of home...but i look at it like a person getting laid off or fired and then turns out his buddy needs someone to come work with him...call it what you will, the guy is better off than hustling desperate on the streets...

if nothing new occurs, the old address will be purchased in a few months...and we'll have to see what happens along the way...

Yeah, I see where your coming from Cen.  It's just............ this site is Yage.net  Not Spiritplants.com or .org.  (I know, silly argument huh.)  It's just it's set up and essentially owned by some guy I know nothing about...... who as far as I know, didn't participate or have any significant interest in the original SP forum to speak of....that is, I don't recall him ever posting there anyways.  In brass tax, what are his underlying longterm motives?  Ownership?

I guess I just liked spiritplants as it was, a seperate and unique entity.... no affiliations only mild suspicions of assosiation.

........ or am I just nuts.

....... and want to see the pheonix rise from the fire

i've known andy for several years now...you may not know this but he has been hosting spf radio for over a year now...he has come to spf chat for many years...when spf went down, and i talked to him about the idea of hosting a temporary site at least, he had the new spf up within 24 hours...he may be new to you, but i can vouch for him fully, as a good person and a trustworthy person...i understand how the old spf bears sentiments in our hearts, but the fact is that it went down with still no explanation, and even before that it has been little administered for a long time...this man who you don't know yet has gifted this community with a chance for re-birth and continuance...

i will leave it at that, time will show things to be what they are...all i can say is, it was my idea for yage to host spf, and i would not have proposed it to andy if i did not implicitly trust him and believe he could and would do this rightly...nearly two months along, do you have any reason to doubt? :)

so, uhh, cen, what are the operating costs for SPR with yage.net?
earth peace through self peace...

Dendro: that will depend on how greedy on bandwidth and cpu useage the site is  (reminds me to re-size my pics). Right now, Andy is just hosting it for free but its very small still.  I imagine when we get the full spf archive back (which i am still cofident of) it would become an expense we can all share.

Avery: we can have the old spf back one day, looking same as ever, cept hosted by yage instead of eddy's company 'jetservers' ..it will still be the old spiritplants.com and the host will be no more obvious than it ever was.
I also have 100% confidence in irish andy, as do the users of the growing number of entheo-related sites hosted by yage.
