Well tonights a big one for me, I am gonna get to play with Melvin Seals, Jerry Garcia's former organist and leader of the current "JGB".

Melvin is guesting with the jam band Mind X and I am subbing for their bassist.

I've been warming up all day, working on my frame of mind. I'll let you knoe how it goes

a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

So, how did it go, sitting in with da big man?

If I remember correctly, our bass playing pal, Stork, in Denver, has been longing for that same opportunity...

Yow, brush with greatness+.

Yeah, I think Stork almost played with that guy a few times but it never worked out.

It was pretty great. Melvin is a great player and a really nice man.

Most of the B-3 players I have played with are Jimmy Smith types, so Melvin's heavy gospel thow down was a breath of fresh are, not that he can't solo with the best of them.

At least 4 people were recording the show, including one off the board. So if one of them comes out good I will make it available to y'all.

Nothing like a heavy gospel throwdown on the heels of a powerful dose....

Well I was a bit busy for a heavy dose, but some of us sipped at a bottle of sugary water from time to time. Just a touch.......

Well, I was really talking about a heavy dose combined with the gospel groove from the perspective of the congregation.

Well actually since Melvin was working as a sideman he was doing our tunes, but we did Don't Let Go, and we had rehearsed Tangled Up In Blue, but since we were jamming so much on all the tunes we never got that far down the list.

Lucky Old Sun is  great song, btw did Garcia ever do House of the Rising Sun?

You should have heard Melvin wailing on the Mind X original, Merry Christmas Motherfucker.

I just talked to Sean Barfly, leader of Mind X and he said that he's got three different recordings of the Melvin show, all good, and they are being assembled and mastered.

Soon as I get it, I will make it avalable.
