hey  got a problem, wonder if anyone can help...
moved couple months ago to norther hemisphere, sent 2 small trichos by post...
the one 'offshoot ' or pup was still on the base, which started molding. i cut it straight away off the base, and dried it as quickly as possible(waiting for spring to plant). the pup, 10cm long has been kept dry as possible for last few months, but has started molding again from underneath. the bottom 1-2cm is starting to go light brown... what to do???
any ideas geatfully accepted
thanks w

Is the light brown area soft or squishy to the touch or bad smelling?

brown area slightly softer than rest of her, but she is relatively soft all over... has been sleeping for a few months. no bad smells. (stupid question maybe, but is there a difference between mold and fungus??)     if the brown carries on spreading, will i have to cut?? chances are that wont get rid of the fungus either...
the brown means its starting to go bad/rot?  bad news....
what to do????????

It is hard to say it is rot, it could be.

Mold seems like a generic term for some types of fungus, for a non-mycologist there should not be any major difference, but not all fungi would be called mold.

The brown might not be a bad thing, all the quick spreading light brown rots I have seen had a bad smell with them and they could attack and kill a cutting almost overnight. Your cutting might not be in as bad shape as you think.

At this point I would suggest just keeping an eye on it. It might only be suberin forming. If you do nothing but keep an eye on it, and it dies, I'll send you a cutting to replace it provided you are in the States.

thanks for the offer, but not in the states... and hopefully not gonna lose her.
take it theres also not much to do regarding the fungus (growing where she was connected to the main column).
cant be good to plant if the fungus is still there... maybe teatree or neem?? heard something about sulphur as well, but not sure.

if its mould, could try a dipping of hydrogen peroxide. will kill it off... or try even a spray or 2 of alchohol, if anything it will help it dry out a bit...

have had mildew problems with out door stumps before, peroxide cleaned it up nice, had orange coloration to cut ends too, no idea what it is but never been much of a prob yet.. good luck

In years of growing I have found mold on cut ends is almost never a problem. But when it is there is often a bad smell and the infection kills the plant almost overnight.
