Pups before roots?

One of my center cuts recently started pupping before producing any roots.

Is this normal(ish)?

Must be. Iv`e never had it happen,tho` will see w/the two center cuts i have on the horizontal from an accidint from late last winter.

     However,i saw what you are describing in a picture 'here' about four months ago. Cacti lengths were stack on top of each other,and must have been for a while,for pups were emerging from along the cacti. I`m talking from cacti lengths well off the ground., a peculair and intersting Pic,from south Africa,as it turned out.
