MAO-B inhibitating properties doesnt seem to be as common as MAO-A (Harmalin-complex seemed to be found in just about any otherwise psychoactive plant).

However I found information about one plant claimed to inhibit MAO-B:  Polygonum multiflorum:
QuoteIn China the herb is known as He Shou Wu after a legendary hero in Chinese folklore. Sickly and impotent, He Shou Wu had lived into his 60's without fathering a child and, suffering a deep depression, he found the herb growing near his home. He took it to a wise old herbalist who divined that it had great restorative powers. After a few days of taking it, his gray hair turned to black and his virility was restored. Subsequently, he fathered 4 children and lived to the age of 132.

Nowonder it turned that the herb was MAO-B inhibiting...

Anyone having information about the herb? How effective would it be compared to lets say Deprenyl?

Don't know what to make of that from the article, but it seems to look promising to me...I'd image that people that live in fairly urban communities could find a chines herb shop and buy it far a really low price...  senorsal

Hey I got some of these plants up for trade or at worst for sale on the trade forums here if interested.
People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.

be careful in inhibition of mao's, diet is very important in these situations, serotonin syndrom could result if your not careful, risk of psychosis would also increase

if i recall, mao-b is more long term than mao-a?

Very true about the diet not to mention some people are allergic to this plant not to mention in some cases it can cause some rather nasty problems instead of solving them and yes mao-b is more long term than mao-a.  All said, I am still very interested in this plant for its properties besides mao-b inhbitors.

mao-b is more long term and is considered  "irreversible".  however it is free from the diet restrictions in low doses.

dont consider this advice to take it or anything....

l-deprenyl is the most well known mao-b inhibitor available commercially, be careful with dose tho, i personally get mild hypertension on 10mg (so i take 5mg) but supposedly this normally doesn't occur until 20mg for average people. it is known to increase libido and i know from personal experience that it diminishes the harmfulness of amphetamines (meth, mda, mdma, amphetamine)

it should also be pointed out that nicotine has mao-b effects, and this is partly why it is addictive, because it elevates dopamine levels for about 45 minutes.

i never knew that fo-ti had mao-b effects, i should get some, it is included in the herbal extract in this drink sold locally made in new zealand called 'chi'

yes glymr, maoi's would help decrease nor adrenaline depletion by slowing the breakdown of NA...

interesting on the chi, its a very tasty, but expensive, soft drink...

mao-b is not involved in the metabolism of noradrenalin visionaryb3ar, only dopamine, for some reason it is a distinctly different enzyme involved, and while most maoi's target both types, mao-b inhibitors only target the ones which break down dopamine, hence the use of deprenyl to help slow the onset of parkinsons's disease.

I should point out at this point that there is a growing body of evidence that excessive manganese content has been connected to some degree with dopamine dysregulation disorders, in fact a very recent study which has only just been completed (I know the son of the scientist who has been doing this study) has found that excessive dopamine pre and neo-natal (most especially the latter) can cause an up to FIFTY PERCENT (i capitalise to express my amazement and quite frankly non-surprise) reduction in dopamine neurons in the brain - and of course this is permanent... I could go on more about the subject but I will wait to be prompted, i have references and theories about this which shed a lot of light on the current plague of attentional disorders, ad/hd and asperger's syndrome. I'm kinda busy at the moment but I will elaborate more and post links to information about this incidious industrial and nutritional toxin if there is interest.
