On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Dave Rawlings Machine, *Nashville Obsolete* (2015) . . . When the brilliant beautiful duo of Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch have Rawlings sing lead, they call it the Dave Rawlings Machine . . . second album under this moniker is just awesome . . . sort of a rocking high bluegrass of odd stories & mysterious figures & feelings . . . wow, and thankee . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: The Monkees, *Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd* (1967) . . . With the band now firmly in control of their music with their last album, *Headquarters*, the boys try all sorts of sounds & it's a delightful melange . . . for anyone who was confused as to who the Monkees were & how good they were, give a listen . . . they were very, very good . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 43 of *The Acid Diaries: A Psychonaut's Guide to the History & Use of LSD* by Christopher Gray. . .

* Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems & *Bags End News* . . . & this week's featured artist is The Decemberists & tunes from their fine new EP, *Florasongs* . . . away for a long long week traveling to the Big Apple & thence Maine, feeling all sorts of excited for tonight's show, let's go!

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Lucero, *All a Man Should Do* (2015) . . . It was hardly a month ago that this Tennessee Americana band was featured on this show, yet here they are with a new record, & it's as good as the last one . . . their sound is luringly simple, then you climb inside & find it's not really simple at all, & really good . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, *Volume 3: A Child's Guide to Good & Evil* (1968) . . . This is the fourth record by this California band featured on this show over the years . . . found myself recently walking many blocks in Manhattan with this one going on my beloved Polly iPod . . . it's a weird album, the whole band is weird, but they've got a compelling music, like many kinds of sounds & ideas welded together, then melted over for good measure . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 43 of *The Acid Diaries: A Psychonaut's Guide to the History & Use of LSD* by Christopher Gray. . .

* Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems & *Bags End News* . . . & this week's featured artists are some of the great ones from the "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" countdown of 15.October.1977 . . . been writing like a madman lately, & trying to excavate my better health from years of neglect & inconsistency . . . & the autumnal colors coming on just salve & salve . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Blitzen Trapper, *All Across This Land* (2015) . . . The eighth LP by this Portland, Oregon indie rock band finds them harking back with their own unique skew to sounds of '70s rock . . . some of the songs rock old school, some are nostalgic or sentimental . . . for a band that can be as complex musically or lyrically as any, this album seems deceptively simple at time . . . but the music is warm & good, & the invitation is there to share in these often melancholic tunes . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Electric Light Orchestra, *A New World Record* (1976) . . . The song "Telephone Line" off this UK rock band's sixth album has always been a favorite of mine, going back to its long stay on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 . . . but only recently did I give a good listen to the other eight songs on this LP . . . the whole suite of them is delightful . . . a sort of gleaming rush of songs that stay in the mind, deep groovy tunes . . .

* Storybook Time*: Chapter 44 of *The Acid Diaries: A Psychonaut's Guide to the History & Use of LSD* by Christopher Gray. . .

* Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems & *Bags End News* . . . & this week's featured artists are more of the great ones from the "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" countdown of 15.October.1977 . . . autumn in full bloom here in New England, every day prettier than the last . . . sure, the winter comes soon, but the miracle of now is awesome . . .
