Greetings SPF'ers. Long time no see.

Doc Watson recently died. A buddy turned me on to Doc's music back when we were kids and he's been a favorite musician of mine and the wife since we've been together. I even proposed to her on the way to MerleFest seventeen years or so ago. We spent a week that spring in the hills of NC soaking up the good vibes of Doc and friends in an intimate setting dedicated to the memory of his deceased son, Merle.

It took the death of a musical legend to bring me back out of the woods and on to this forum. Thanks for the new start, Doc. RIP.

Lost my boots in transit, babe,
smokin\' pile of leather.
Nailed a retread to my feet
and prayed for better weather...

Thanks, sistah-j. I knew I could count on you to keep the lights on while I was away.

Here's a link to a nice write up with vids on Doc's passing.

Saw Doc a couple times as a kid, made a huge impression.
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

What I learned from NPR this morning: Doc started out was an electric player, had an early Les Paul, until he discovered the beauty of acoustic music.
