Hey Bushpig,

I feel your pain, as my grandfather succumbed to Alzheimer's.

While not specifically related to Alzheimer's or progressive supranuclear palsy, here's a pretty interesting video about the cancer-fighting properties of various vegetables. One of the cancers that they studied was brain cancer.

I believe the video's from 2009, so it's still fairly recent.

If you'd like to skip the video (I think it's about nine minutes long, and well worth a watch) the results seem to be what most of us know inherently. Garlic reigns king for preventing the progress of almost all cancers, as do most of the Alliums. The Brassicas are also top-notch.

Spinach appears to be the best of the leafy-greens, so Popeye was on to something.

Good luck to you!

Thankyou for your reply Cunningplatypus :)

He's on some hemp oil, ginkgo, brazilian ginseng .. some subtle improvements detected.  Any info on detoxing heavy metals appreciated.

What about someone like me, garlic, ginkgo and ginseng are all contraindicated according to my cardiac education nurse.
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

Boosh,

I came across some pretty interesting discussions about two compounds, Honokiol and Magnolol, that you might want to explore. Both are obtained from the bark of the Magnolia tree (Magnolia officinalis).

The compounds have long been used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, to treat everything from cramps to leukemia to anxiety. They've garnered a lot of attention recently for their weight-loss potential (leave it to the anything weight-related to help grab the spotlight -- can you say Hoodia?) However, and this is where it gets interesting, they also appear to have some pretty significant neurotropic effects, including, potentially, the ability to prevent or lessen the effects of Alzheimer's or other brain disorders.

I'm in no way a biologist or chemist, so much of what I've read is quite literally Greek to me.  However, Alzheimer's seems to be connected to an imbalance of acetylcholine, and Honokiol and Magnolol appear to have a profoundly beneficial effect on acetylcholine and the peripheral damage. Of the two compounds, Magnolol seems to be the better.

I'd say both deserve a closer look.

Good luck!
