I'm not going to argue this too much but I had a hoffman strain Sd flower (and subsequently die) last year.  This year I had a Sd seedling come up adventitiously in another pot that was next to my flowering Sd (that was brought in for the winter).  I've watched this seedling grow since it was a tiny speck.  At first I thought it was a mint; but when it became bigger, I became suspicious that it was Sd.  I tried a small portion of leaf a few days ago to see if it tasted like mint.  It tasted very bitter like Sd and I got off on it 5-10 minutes later (don't believe me if you want).  Eventually I would like some second opinions but I believe this strain could be a LOT stronger than the normal hoffman strain (I think it looks slightly different from the normal hoffman strain as well).  Anyway, thanks for letting me share.

Check out this root system.  Has anyone ever seen a root system like this on a rooted cutting of Sd?  Looks like it might be making runners like mint!

Wow, I almost shat myself!  :e_surprised:
thats amazing!
If ever you feel like sharing a cutting or two, let me know :D

The plant is only a couple of months old yet but I believe I should be able to get one small cutting from it within a month or two.  I've emailed this guy yesterday to see if he would be interested in it:

I would like to get it out there- but I really don't want to be a distributor...

For me I know it raises several questions.

These aren't mine but they are a good representation of what my original Sd looked like:

notice how different they look compared to the seedling I have?

Either Sd is already a hybrid (compare Luna and what I have to hoffman) or it readily hybridizes with other species within the family.  In my case, I'm very curious if I have an interspecific hybrid between Sd and mint (and how would that effect legality?).  Would it be possible for that to increase potency?  Or perhaps the perceived increase in potency (I felt strong Sd effects from a small portion of leaf...promise/seriously) in this seedling is because the original hoffman strain is so virused from being distributed from cutting after cutting that it has diminished its potency? I do own three or four species of mint and lemon balm...

Amazing! I have been wanting to try salvia growing for myself, so you say the plant may have some genetics coming from seed
that may be different from your original cutting!

Hi,
I've been arround with SD time enough to know that if what you have in your hands is what your saying it seems, you have a monstrous breaktrough with unforseen consequences:)
And the picture really seems like a perfect hybrid. The root system in the picture is devilish... My god, wild mint is a pest where I live.
You did good to contact D Siebert, if anyone he is the one who can clarify the matter.
Anyway if you say these leaves are active, well you already have half an answer.

All the best,
Quetzalt

Salvia has follow steam, it would be good great if you can check it out with your plants.

Hi

Not to put a damper on things but that isnt a salvia seedling.

The leaves are wrong and so is the root system.

I will start a thread soon.

Any more news/comments on your seedling?  VERY cool...

Any updates? Just grow it out to full size and take pictures!
