Just got off the phone from one of our bruddas in sunny California. It seems he is in need of a plantsman who speaks spanish. Anyway, I just made a verbal commitment to spend next season in Humboldt county and I am stoked about this opportunity. Mrs lw has given her blessing. She has seen which projects of mine have brought me the most personal satisfaction. Unfortunately, my life has felt like its been in neutral for the last bunch of years and most of my passion has had to be closeted. hehe

Here's to motion...

It sounds like he's going to want me out there for a spell this winter, too.... However, I couldn't commit to this year's harvest for a few reasons, one of them being an agreement I made to teach ESL at two different campuses this fall.

So it sounds like we'll be meeting up sooner than later, bruddah JRL.

Sounds like the LW definition of "self-actualization." :)

I have a relation (sort of a cousin) who makes his living out in Humboldt county as part of the medical MJ industry. The whole context and situation is very complex and bizarre! Talk about "grey areas..."

My sister has been out to help with the harvest before. Sounds very intense, but not without its rewards...

Thanks for the kind words, folks.

It sounds like next year I may be spending up to six months in California. Luckily the gig pays well enough that I shouldn't have to worry about money for the rest of the year. So this might be my last semester teaching, at least for awhile.

Mrs lw has no desire to leave Ioway, and that's the only part that really bothers me. I'll miss my wife and don't like to think about her having to fend for herself in the kitchen after working the long days she currently puts in.

How things change......

I just committed to a year in sunny No Cal. Luckily a carrier is beginning to offer cheap flights from our corner of da prairie to points west.

I want mrs lw to come with me, but she won't leave her family. Her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and father all depend on her to keep shit straight. (If you remember, mrs lw has a sister with seven children who lost her husband due to gun violence. They now range in age from first grade to a junior in high school.)

She's hoping we maybe eventually end up with homes in both No Cal and Ioway. We're both hoping the laws in Iowa change.

THings are starting to come together. Mrs lw is even getting stoked about the possibilities. (I catch her looking at property for sale in mendocino county all the time. hehe) She has come to the conclusion that leaving Iowa will not be so bad after all. And her Dr says it will be good for her lungs and allergies, to boot. So we are both excited.

Looks like I'll be located near Willits Ca next season. No indoor space to work at this location, so I won't have to be out west until late March/early April.

I gave notice at the community college yesterday that I won't be back next semester. Mrs lw's family has been told of our plans and are happy for us. I've told a couple of my uncles, but have no plans on telling my mother or sisters. We hardly ever communicate and when we do, its usually not good for me. If they would happen to call, my cell phone number will always be the same. I plan on coming back for my grandma's birthday next summer and that's really the only time I see those folks.....

Anyway, I'll be teaching until mid december and then preparing taxes from january until I leave for NoCal.

The plan is for me to work with/for my friend for two or three years and eventually make enough money and connections to start my own business. (Nobody knows what the future will bring for mmj prices, etc.)

Sounds like the threads are beginning to form a braid. good luck to you, LW and to the lucky lungs of mrs. LW.

Mrs lw has come 180* since this thread started. She just got a raise and new title that she says will really help her when she seeks employment in NoCal. At present, she has her heart set on checking out property in Anderson Valley. It sounds like a great compromise to me. Grapes and wine are getting big in AV, but apparently many of the growers are rasta/hippies. Who can resist grapes, olives and da kine?
