Has anyone heard about the new bill submitted by John McCain that attemts to make normal protesting and or public dissent a crime???  Yep, I know how the current Homeland Security provisions could arguably be said to accomplish the same thing, but this bill reads like something outta Hitlers Germany...  The guv rulers only have to asset that someone supports some sort of nebulous anti-guv position, and voila, you will be carted off to the detention camps with no Miranda, no lawyer, no trial...  Get this, the military would be the ones tasked with rounding up and incarcerating 'we 'da peeps'....  There is a link to the entire bill provided at DRC.net.....  Scary stuff imho....

I don't know man. I distrust the government as much as the next guy--a lot more than the next guy, really--but this sounds a bit like Internet hysteria, or at least a post by Zaka...

All I can tell you is to read the freakin bill..  It's published in full on many sites... Not like its a big secret really, it just is so blatantly out of line that I agree, it does sound like net hyperbole!!  Maybe that's a new Pepub stategy...  Submit a draconion bill and figure we 'da peeps will assume it is too far fetched to be real...Jeez, talk about Orwellian.........

I couldn't find anything on DRC.net (and I assume you meant DRCNet.org). I looked at the landing pages, did a site search, etc.

Do you have a link?

OK. So I read the proposed bill.

I think it is a crappy piece of legislation--as is all legislation coming from our authoritarian masters--and I think the world would be a much better place without it.

On the other hand, I don't see how this would be used to the nefarious purposes that Senior alluded to above (for example, using it against normal protesters). A corrupt government can do whatever the hell it wants, and one could imagine a dystopian future where a bill like this could be used to squash dissent. But in reality this bill isn't the tool for that, so while I think it is a load of crap, I don't think it justifies Zak-ian levels of paranoia. There are easier ways of going about squashing dissent.

Question: Couldn't it be used against the tea baggers?
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling
