Political Pandering on the Prairie..........

I saw and ad on Drudge earlier today paid for by a politician running on the platform of repealing "ObamaCare." Tow buttons were presented. One, bright and bold for those to push wishing to repeal the health care measure just passed. The vote yes for ObamaCare button was about the same color as the rest of the ad. Kind of camouflaged. So I just had to push that button in opposition of the candidate in question. ANd it was then I found myself on a political contribution page of a person my age who grew up in the same small town as I did and is now running for governor on a platform of the hard, radical Christian right.

The page asked me for a donation even though I'd indicated my opposition with the initial push of a button. I really didn't want to donate to this guy's cause. However, his handlers also provided space for folks to write Mr Obama and express their anger with his actions as president of the US. After thinking about it for a second, this is what I decided to send in reply.......

Dear President Obama,

Please don't pay any attention to Bob VDP. He is an embarrassment to the state of Iowa. Most of us are not impressed by his repeated campaigns of hate and intolerance.  Apparently Bob and I have very different opinions on what it means to "walk the Christian walk," even though we grew up at the same time, in the same small town and played little baseball together. Heck, I even attended the same church as his (future) wife for a brief period of time. But somehow, we embraced different values and apparently developed nearly opposite belief structures as we grew up and became adults.  

Bob VDP is determined to legislate his particularly exclusive brand of morality. For example, he is determined to squash civil rights in Iowa and wants to throw any and all judges off the bench not agreeing to repeal recently decided cases insuring gay and lesbian couples full protection under the law. (I remember seeing white supremacists in the south looking/acting equally enraged when civil rights were given to blacks back in the 60's.)

And now, apparently Bob wants to repeal ObamaCare. Of the 33 industrial nations in the world, the US is the last to begin ensuring that every citizen will have access to health care regardless of job status or pre existing condition. President Obama, like a good Christian, has stepped up to the plate and attempted to make this a country for all, not just the "haves." Shame on Bob VDP for fostering and encouraging the elements of bigotry and selfishness (greed) to play such a large roll in the public sector while professing to be a Christian. (I fail to see or recognize Jesus in sentiment or deed of the man in question.)

btw...... I used to date this guy's wife before they got together.

They went to a private christian high school and I went to the public school. When the girl's family found out I was sweet on their daughter, trouble ensued as it was believed that I was a catholic and apparently folks from that dutch christian church aren't supposed to go out with folks attending the catholic church for some reason. A fragile truce was reached until I went away to college and then Bob entered the picture and here we are. Small world, eh?

Bob Vander Plaats would be a governor for the lunatic fringe christian right, attempting to legislate morality from the bully pulpit,  if given the opportunity. Iowa needs an inclusive and not exclusive attitude, imo.

So, you based your decision on...what?  The underdog, or the least flashy button? And then, when I disagree with cenacle poking fun at the Tea Party in another thread, you label me a right winger....What is the deal?   I could just as easily assume that you are an Obamabot.  Either I am confused, or else I am just not following 'the party line' that I am supposed to fit in with.

You are confused, diss. And you don't really understand the political situation in Iowa, imo, with Bob VDP.

Bob VDP only wanted votes for those against Obama Care. It wasn't really a poll. HE only wanted folks to push the shiny button. As a matter of fact, the "poll" never registered my vote, as I've been receiving emails from BOb as of late asking for donations. Btw, I grew up with this guy. I know him and his political viewpoint very well. (And I don't think you know jack-shit about this guy.)

The problem as I see it, is when you came into cen's thread and started attacking the "seekers" at this site. There would have been no problem, imo, if you would have simply attacked a viewpoint by giving your opinion on the tea baggers, but you really didn't want to do that.

On the other side, 20 percent said they would be "much less likely" and 9 percent said "somewhat less likely" to support that lawmaker. Nineteen percent said the health vote would have no effect on their support, and 5 percent said they did not know.

Other polls show the new law gradually becoming more popular as people learn what's actually in the bill. Bills generally become more popular after they become law, but the reform law has been demogogued by Republicans more than most, and they have not let up in the weeks since it passed.

The GOP could be facing a day of reckoning if and when independent voters realize that Republicans have deliberately deceived them. The GOP's tea-bagger base, who only get their "news" from propaganda sources like Fox and Limbaugh, will be shielded from the truth, but it is (much) more than likely that independent voters, who get information from legitimate media as well as Fox, will learn soon enough the none of the GOP spin — that the bill would create death panels, lead to rationing, constitute a government takeover, put government bureacrats between patients and doctors, cover illegal aliens, use taxpayer funds to pay for abortions and the rest — has ever had any basis in reality.

It doesn't help the GOP that independent voters are much more likely to be uninsured than Republicans or Democrats.

Hey, I AM one of the 'seekers' at this site.  I have been here for years before you came around.  I wasn't attacking anyone, just bemoaning the rampant partisanship of an old friend.  You attacked me by calling me a 'hater'.  I was posting in Cenacle's thread not one of yours, so whats the deal?  I won't attack anyone's viewpoint, why would I do that?  I will say what I want, and I did, and you don't like what I had to say, apparently.  You seem to think that I jumped onto a thread uninvited and unwanted, and started spewing right-wing rhetoric around.  Well, fuck, I probably would not have even posted if I wasn't the moderator of the topic.

I do not want to tangle with you, LW.  I have no power here.  You do.  I wanted to interact with cenacle in his thread, but you made it your business and you seem to be spoiling for a fight for some reason.  After reading posts here for years, I pretty much know each persons personality.  Without personally insulting anyone, I will just say, fine, you win LW.  Just say the word and I am gone like the wind.   There is no alternative but for me to just let you have your way.
