Judih, great list! You should be a DJ.
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

What an interesting thread. My caveats are that I never use the shuffle, and my iPod is not full, and that I mostly use it for listening to music I have not heard before, while keeping a few favorites on hand as well. That said, this is my list:

The Jayhawks - Will I See You in Heaven?
Blur - Bugman
The Shins - Weird Divide
The Ramones - I Can's Make It On Time
R.E.M. - New Orleans Instrumental

Harry Chapin - W-O-L-D
Pearl Jam - Force of Nature
The Smiths - I Started Something I Couldn't Finish
R.E.M. - King of Birds
R.E.M. - Shiny Happy People
Blur - Star Shaped
The Ramones - I Don't Want to Grow Up
Noah and the Whale - My Broken Heart
The Bats - Satellites
Radiohead - Backdrifts
Radiohead - Go To Sleep
Death Cab for Cutie - Your Heart is an Empty Room
R.E.M. - Windout
R.E.M. - Untitled 11th Song

Yeah, I hadn't heard anything of these guys until relatively recently, except for Walk The Dinosaur, which made me think they were just a cheesy '90s pop act.  Then a friend gave me a couple of their albums about a year ago and I learned how weird and crazy-eclectic these dudes really are.  Never heard anything like them.  Highly recommended!

Very quirky. Don Was is a brilliant producer, his Rhythm, Country and Blues is a great compilation CD.

I like Walk the Dinosaur! Funny tune with some great bass playing by Marcus Miller I'm pretty sure.
