Irie,
So the Babadine tread is going adrift. Lets discuss the Mulungu here.
Now we have Erythrina spp. here and I collected some seeds for someone a while back.
They were almost like small kidney beans....the trees are about 95ft tall......Used as shade trees for the cocoa plantations.
Then I'm reading through this article(//http://www.rain-tree.com/mulungu.htm) and it says the seeds are black and red? We also have this tree here, & it's known as Donkey Eye, which we use for craft work.
I guess the first seeds I collected was from Erythrina verna.
If anyone has any knowledge of these trees & their preparation, I would like to know more.

I thought E. verna and E. mulungu were synonymous?

Quote from: "plainswalker"I thought E. verna and E. mulungu were synonymous?
Irie,
Yeah So did I!
So the  E. verna, is also known as "Immortelle" has a brownish/redish bean shaped seed.
But apparently the Donkey eye I was thinking about is in fact Ormosia monosperma.
Now the E. mulungu is a beans shaped seed. I'm trying to get hold of some seeds that are actually orange & black, not red & black as previously described.
I will get to the bottom of this! :bfrown:

I found these pics:

Erythrina mulungu

Erythrina verna

Also remember that there are many (over 100) species of Erythrina, probably a number of which grow in your general area.

I tried some and it gave a mild relaxation. Not enough to be recreational and it didn't seem to help me sleep. I only used about 2gm made into a tea with my expresso maker. It will make you a little woozy so be careful about driving on it. It also seems to carry over a little bit the next day. It's used as a medicine for some conditions. Both verna and crista galli seem to have the same effects from what i've heard.

Irie Kunda,
So the seeds seem to be the same as we have which is the "Immortelle" Erythrina verna..
I guess your about the same lat south of the equator as here is north...yours are flowering now..July....ours in Jan...
Do you have the yellow flowering trees? They are much rarer than the orange....1 in 100'ish. Not sure if it's different species?
Shame I wasn't up on this last year. Had a bunch of trees fall during a storm...have to keep watch this years storm season.
Stoney, I looked to see if I had any seeds, but sorry none left......guess I could hook u up in March...
But maybe Kunda, could hook you up in six weeks or so..?
