Hi all,

I've had a cactus cutting sitting on my floor for about two weeks, it has some root strike powder on the cut end, and I've just noticed some orange spots appearing there.

Is this "orange rot"? Should I slice this off and let it harden again?

Could be. I would say watch it for a day or 2, and check to see if its soft. If it is, cut ALL the rot out.

Well I scratched at it, and it was soft and mushy just below the orange parts. Wasn't looking good, so I sliced it all off clean. Hopefully it can handle being cut again and out of the pot for another week or so.

If you really got all the orange, the prognosis is good. keeping them in a dry place really helps. And don't forget, you can root a real thin piece, a couple of inches will do.
