On this week's show:

Featured New Rock Album: Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, *Raising Sand* (2007)....This collaboration by the Led Zeppelin lead singer & bluegrass fiddling superstar is washed in moods, in old decades, in harmonies and fine, fine playing...rainy weather music, whatever the sky is today...

Featured Classic Rock Album: Santana, *Santana* (1969)...Santana's first album set out their mission to Latinize rock and roll, give it lead guitar spiritual firepower and rhythmic overdrive...I saw Carlos Santana and his band some years ago, double bill with Jeff Beck...Beck played like an amazing robot...Carlos whipped up such a frenzy the sky seemed ready to crack wide...

Storybook Time: Chapter Five of *Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism * by Daniel Pinchbeck...

Readings from *Why?* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems...& this week's featured artist is the Who at the Monterey Pop Festival back in June 1967, this being the second band whose set from that festival has been broadcast on this show...cooler days, autumnal colors, the year's end not yet in sight but feel it coming, feel it coming...

On this week's show:

Featured New Rock Album: Rogue Wave, *Asleep at Heaven's Gate* (2007)...It's been nearly two years since this show played this New York band's last album, *Descended Like Vultures*...their new one finds their indie rock sound expanding, becoming a bit stranger and more original...a confident sound, sweet moving music...

Featured Classic Rock Album: The Guess Who, *American Woman* (1970)...this popular Canadian band's name started as a publicity stunt for an early single...by 1970 they'd come into their own as a band equally capable of hard rock as melody...this album is full of familiar & forgotten nuggets and very much worth revisiting...

Storybook Time: Chapter Six of *Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism * by Daniel Pinchbeck...

Readings from *Why?* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems...& this week's featured artist is Big Brother & the Holding Company at the Monterey Pop Festival back in June 1967, this being the third band whose set from that festival has been broadcast on this show...this festival was the coming out party for Jimi, the Who, & on this broadcast, Janis Joplin...a week off to shamble around Puddletown, now back, hungry as always for the airwaves after a break!

On this week's show:

Featured New Rock Album: Joni Mitchell, *Shine* (2007)...Strangely, though I love her work, admire her soul, this show has never featured Joni's music...this new album is her first in a few years, a return from retirement...it's beautiful, it's idiosyncratic, some of it grouchy, some of it joyous...has struck me deep...

Featured Classic Rock Album: Dire Straits, *Brothers in Arms* (1985)...this album rocked some very low days that were the mid-1980s...gave those of us who loved rock music unreasonably back then some hope it still carried on...aside from the hits, it is a beautiful full-length, worth hearing one end to the other...

Storybook Time: Chapter Seven of *Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism * by Daniel Pinchbeck...

Readings from *Why?* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems...& this week's featured artist is The Eagles, some stand out cuts from their excellent new double album, *Long Road Out of Eden*... the year's end is in sight, 2008 & its monster questions rise up nearer...what good or bad will we bring upon ourselves then?
