But seriously man, we don't wanna chase you away, and us curmudgeons are in the minority here. Most of da bredren are down with all things tek.

Having said that, I for one prefer a heartbeat to a clock.

Quote from: "laughingwillow"Maybe its because real drums with skin heads move a certain volume of air when struck and rhythms produced by drum machines lack this phenomena.  I guess what I'm saying is that, imo, under psychedelic duress, its just as important to feel some sounds as it is to hear them.

Of course, you're forgetting that no sound comes out the drum machine itself, it's sent to a big fat stacked speaker - which in itself is very much vibrating & moving the air, and can most definitely be felt!

Some electronic music sucks for sure, and the scene is lookin' pretty druggy & empty (where's it headed exactly?) to me at the moment... psy trance is boring, so is ecstacy & ketamine... but - I got knocked on my back by some unexpectedley heavy cactus medicine at a beautiful festy here recently, found myself curled on the floor with my lady riding fractal wheels of festival thoughts, a silent sinkhole for the sounds around... there was this guy called CHEJU (who you can hear on myspace if you want) manipulating sonics, playing pure frequencies & beautiful melodies from his machines - it was pretty organic, mellow, emotional electronica and it sounded very lovely in deed, the plant medicine agreed!

It's a different story when you're jamming for sure, but electronic music shouldn't be dismissed, it can be very soulful & moving, and also very spontaneous...

so there.

oh yeah, and where i was laid was a really amazing space - ID spiral - these peeps know how to create a good environment!

this is it in daytime:

the sound was top notch, anywhere you stood (or sat, or lay) it could be felt & heard well without being too loud so you had to shout or clap your hands to your head... they had hammocks & geodesic tea tents, low tables & spongy carpets... raw food & good brews, also cakes & pizza's for the more munchy amungus... most everything in white with well used splashes of colour - at night the whole place would light up, and projections were dripping from every surface... and generally, the sounds were liquid heaven... a magical place...

when electronic music is done right, it is very very nice.

me stop now, i love all sortsa ting.

Yeah man, it was lovely... best festival I've been to in years...
I know it was good because I got depressed afterwards and needed a week off work..!

I recall walking thru town and two young chicks with orange faces and silver handbags and tinted hair walked passed talking about big brother, you get so used to seeing the weirdness of the modern world as normal when you're stuck in it, but after the festy, I could hardly believe they were human! Aliens in lady make-up talking about TV shows... arghhhh!

it was www.sunrisecelebration.com by the way, highly recommended.

Sounds like a good time. US fests are not so sunny often.

Hey, I got nothing against any method of making music, it's not electronica I don't like it's crappy music of any kind. Problem with computers is anyone can create semi-good stuff, good enough to blow there own minds and maybe their Mom's. So they cease being hungry acolytes of whatever the art form of their choice is, thinking they are already there.

When I listen to music I don't think about how it was made, many ways to skin the catgut, but what I do look at is how it effects me. I think electronica artists need more complete music educations, with more understanding of harmony and form the music will only get better.

Just my opinion, but quite concidered. I know it is not a popular view around here.

You are certainly right in my book. Agree with all your points.

Some of the punk ethos there tho, as in 'anyone can do it'... In lotsa ways it's a good thing... but yes, it probably does make peeps a bit lazy.

(festivals not so sunny here often neither - some good magic worked at sunrise - forecast was 'pisspisspiss' and when we arrived on thursday it did just that, but later that afternoon came a big rainbow cross the site & friday & saturday were blazing! sunday was grey, but that seemed somehow fitting.)

Bring on the hungry acolytes!!!

true that anyone "can" do it, but who will so committed?? Following your bliss ain't easy, and for me it has taken way long, all my life.

I meant the sun that blazes within, not the orb in the sky........

I've always wanted to be able to play with a drum machine, if for no other reason to get an understanding of funky time signatures. In other words, anything that is not standard 4/4 or 3/4. LOL!

Can you help a brother out???

Yes siree, following your bliss is a good thing to spend your life doing, especially 'cos it ain't easy!  :D

Not many festivals in the UK let the soul-light shine like sunrise, glastonbury has been 'appropriated' now, the sunrise peeps go the whole hog, good ethics & loadsa diversity, attracts a great crowd...

I play with a drum machine all the time as a learning tool. I think I like playing with them better than listening to them.

And so it happened I caught up with a big chunk of my bliss up in Redding California last night, first playing for a couple of thousand Reddites, then sitting in the full moon in a  hotel parking lot  next to I-5.

LOL (In best Seinfeld Soup Nazi voice...)   No scene for you!!

We all have different musical interests here. Spirit plants are what brought us together. By no scene, I'm assuming you really mean, "not YOUR scene," correct?

Speaking of true colors. hehe
