Hi I haven't been here in a while and obviously a lot has changed... I came here to look up the tincture write up that Amomynous wrote. But I can't find any archives! Is there anywhere I can access the old salvia plane archives? either that or can someone write up his tincture method or your own?

I was also thinking about trying the method with acetone. Unless anyone knows of a way to get grain alchahol in washington state. I've also heard that 200 proof vodka works but I don't know where to get that either.

Anyone?

Sadly, no.  We won't have access to the old forums until Eddy surfaces, and maybe not even then.  (I'm sick at the thought of all that knowledge gone.)  Perhaps Amomymous, who I believe has made it here to SPF Refuge, will repost the method.  If I can find it in my personal archives, I'll post it.  Maybe someone will beat me to it.

Grain alcohol i.e. Everclear is not available in many states, but I've found that in Virginia, where the state ABC stores won't sell it, you can often get around this problem by arranging to purchase Everclear from liquor stores on military bases, which will often offer it.  Might be worth a try.  To my knowledge Everclear is 190 proof (95%) and it or a similar brand is the strongest commercially available "beverage".

200 proof "vodka" would be pure anhydrous ethanol, which I don't think is commercially available to the average joe--- at least not via liquor stores. (proof = % of EtOH * 2) Anything sold as 100% ethanol to the average joe will certainly be denatured and not suitable for a tincture.
What I need is a strong drink and a peer group....

...and 200 proof "anything" certainly wouldn't taste like vodka or anything but alcohol as 100% of it IS alcohol and thus leaves no room for flavoring of any kind.

Amomynous has reposted the info.
...and as if from the inception of time itself I realized I was and had been for sometime, elsewhere, elsewhen or somehow, quite seriously, otherwise...

No, they always seemed to have it in stock.  What I meant by "arrange" is  I would just ask one of my navy friends (when I lived near a naval base) to pick one up for me on his way home from work.  :D  I don't know whether or not just anyone can patronize liquor stores on military bases, or if they only sell only to military personnel.  Maybe you could call ahead and ask.

When I was in college I would drive 20 minutes to the next state (with noticiably lax liquor laws) to stock up on a few 1.75 L's Everclear from the first  7-11 I came across. :)  Maybe that's an option for you--- but that stuff ain't cheap!

By the way, Sentientpuppet, it looks like you can apply for an annual Class 2 permit (for a $5 fee) that lets you purchase 190 and 200 proof ethanol from a state liquor store. (Provided that you do NOT use it "for beverage purposes".)  You have to ask for it at the store once you have a permit.  The permit form looks pretty innocuous--- if you fill it out in earnest i.e. "for extraction of phytochemicals from medicinal herbs" I bet you'd be able to get one.
