Two years ago I said that Salvia Divinorum would be banned across the USA within five years , looks like it is already happening .

I hate to say it but the USA is really caught up in living in FEAR ..................like NEVER before in their History !!!

WHY ??

Glad I got some plants while I could.  Hopefully I can get some cuttings to root successfully someday!

Yeah about a week or two ago it was on FOX 5 news.  It was a warning about the new halllucinogenic herb that kids are turning to.  Luckily it was right at the end of the news and was so quick i doubt it made much of an impact.  I guess they didn't have time to get into the reefer madness pitch.  I've heard of it popping up on local news channels but this was the first time on a major news channel.

All is not lost. If you fight it, you can win.

The facts about Salvia speak for themselves--not harmful, not addictive, and not a problem in most states. In spite of media hype and official misinformation, committees considering legislation are generally not staffed by stupid people, and react positively and intelligently when presented with the facts. In states where people have actually taken an interest, written their congresscritters, especially those on the committees which review Salvia laws, and shown up for public comment, ban attempts have failed. Recently in Maine, a ban was proposed. Two people showed up at the public forum to speak against it. In workshop, the bill was amended from a complete ban in the State, to regulation only--sale and possession of Salvia legal for 18+. In California, people showed up at the public hearing and the bill was killed in committee. In Texas, no one showed up to oppose proposed legislation and it has gone through committee to the legislature. If you hear of a potential ban, fight it and you just might win. There are all kinds of examples out there. More states have considered bans and not passed them than have passed proposed bans. There are states out there, like the amended bill proposal in Maine, who have passed regulatory rather than prohibitive legislation essentially keeping Salvia legal in one form or another.

You can fight it. You can win. No one else will do it for you. If you care at all about keeping entheogens legal, or even taking steps to reverse current prohibitions, Salvia is the front line and anyone interested in any currently scheduled psychoactives should be politically active about this sacred herb.

I have a variety of posts detailing the fight in Maine over at entheogen.com and The Nook:

At entheogen.com, you'll also find threads about other states where legislation has failed like in CA where people spoke publicly against a ban, and other states like GA and TX, where no-one spoke and legislation is sailing through state capitals.

Fight bans. Only way it's going to stay legal. And you can win, there are plenty of examples.

new issue of GQ has a cover article on Salvia.  Lot of interesting story but unfortunately written by an alcoholic asshole who has no respect for the plants, the indigenous people or what he is really doing.  The article is a pretty good covert advert for banning the herb;  although to be fair he does state that there is absolutely no evidence of any danger except for fabricated lies by panic stricken bureaucrats.  The author seems to be an imbalanced substance abuser.

damn, i havent tried growing any myself yet, but i live in  canada and hardly anybody cares anyways. if the conservatives lose the next two elections, and the pot advocates really gets the lead out, we can have pot legalized in five years, assuming we can bypass american influence

a war on many fronts eh

And there in is the problem. Too many Canadian politicians fear that the USA, or that the    GOP (the Republicans  , aka Gas and Oil Party) in particular, would make trade problems for them if the MJ laws are changed in Canada. That is why it is a felony to posses small amounts of MJ in Canada, yet it is only an infraction or misdemeanor to posses equally small, <28g, amounts of MJ in most US states.

However, if the conservatives loose the next Presidential election in the USA, and they probably will, things may very well start to change. However, this will all take time, and that may be time that we don't have as far as SD is concerned.
Welcome to Salvia-space.

Don't just dump on the Republicans--in many states (ME and IL just to name two), it was Democrats who sponsored anti-salvia bills. Both parties damn drugs--Reps because of their social conservatism, Dems because of their nanny-state fiscal liberalism.

Because of the way things are, I expect decriminalization to happen when the Reps are in control, not the Dems. Unless we get some kind of sensible third party candidate elected...
