Here's a show where I learned a few things about fighting the law. Sitting down during Wharf Rat led to some important discoveries.

Btw, JRL, Derek Trucks sat in on the entire second set, which represents a fine example of his influence/contributions, imo.

Here ia a night with Phil in Denver that tstt and I broke out a circus joint in front of god and the security forces. We blasted off just before the band went into Cosmic Charlie. Becoming one with the music as that song was birthed is an experience I will not soon forget. I closed my eyes and watched a fireball approach. As it got closer I noticed the small dragon heads leading individual coils of flame spewing from a giant cosmic serpent that engulfed me as it passed by.

Btw, my wife babysat us, up against the wall and all while we were out of order. hehe

The cryptical/other one following cosmic charlie was insane to boot.

This was my birthday show in Denver on 4-5-02. The spirit sat me down HARD the night before, so it was nice to have a happy/upbeat performance on my b-day. I went into the Philmore that night wishing for an Attics of My Life. When the band encored SoulShine, all was over except for the crying, until they whipped out an Attics for a rare second encore and made my night complete.

Thanks Phil.

In the attics of my life, full of cloudy dreams unreal.
Full of tastes no tongue can know, and lights no eyes can see.
When there was no ear to hear, you sang to me.

I have spent my life seeking all thats still unsung.
Bent my ear to hear the tune, and closed my eyes to see.
When there was no strings to play, you played to me.

In the book of loves own dream, where all the print is blood.
Where all the pages are my days, and all the lights grow old.
When I had no wings to fly, you flew to me, you flew to me.

In the secret space of dreams, where I dreaming lay amazed.
When the secrets all are told, and the petals all unfold.
When there was no dream of mine, you dreamed of me. - Hunter/Garcia? -

That might be my favorite song of all time. It was in my wedding and will be in my funeral.

Nice list Grnm, Alice Coltranes harp playing is pretty mind melting. I thought maybe I was the only one left that dug Their Satanic Majesty's, it is quite trippy but seems maybe a bit cynical, but that is satan for ya.

Quicksilver is a good one, I remember trippin my tail off at Hoffman Park (real park in my home hood) and Who Do You Love was blasting out on someones 8 track. It was so perfect.

How about Forest Flower- Charles Lloyd. He was one of the first turned on jazz guys, he played with the Dead at the Human Be-in.

No one has mention Ravi Shankar, Bach, or Mozart. Or Procul Harum.

Yow, we were driving home from BX3 with sparkly eyes last night and my wife put on Smile. We had never heard it. Man is that weird.

BX3 is that Jeff Berlin, Billy Sheehan, and super dude Stu Hamm?

I got to hang out with Stu, nice cat.

Did they play Big Bottom??

Yeah, that's the line-up. They played Big Bottom, then into Crossroads (Cream style) with Jeff Berlin singing. The bass playing was insane. So was the guitar playing and drumming, for that matter. I guess the guitarist is editor for Guitar magazine and it shows.

Believe it or else, I am not a huge fan of bass extravaganzas. I am more about the way the bass works in a structural way, supporting singers and soloists.

Having said that, I think the saving grace of these guys is having enough humor to do something like big bottom. Did Stu provide some comic relief?
I saw him do a clinic, like I said hung with him a bit. He's the Big Lebowski of the bass and you gotta love that.
