Recieved an e-mail a few days ago from Daniel Pinchbeck ( author of Breaking Open The Head )    Thought I'd let you all know that he has a new book out entitled Return of Quetzacoatl......  It's a cosmological assembly of everything from Quantum Theory, to Shamanic practices, to the Mayan osession with time and the 2012 end time prophecies....  Sounds like a great read for those into this kind of stuff....   Jeez, I sound like a shill for the marketing firm eh :P -----------  sal

I always dislike EVERYTHING being wrapped up in one not so tidy package, you know maybe they have gone past the point of no return...........but I would like to read his first book.

Any reviews from you locals?..

What about "Antipodies of the Mind".....I heard some good things lately about it.
Thanks.
hmm..is the wind offshore yet?

Breaking open the head is a really good book, I recommend it. Good to see Pinchbeck has a new one out. He writes well, and has done a lot of thinking and feeling about his subject matter. Try him out :)

i liked Pinchbeck first book quite a bit. i enjoyed reading his personal journey from a jaded and cynical NY hip and empty journalist to a more spirtual version of himself.
for a book review, i wrote one here:
http://www.gamatron.net/pinchbeck.htm

i have no intentions of looking at his new book. as senor said, sounds like a nice package of new agy fluff. might as well read the Perennial philosophie, just replacing  a few archetypes by their new and hipper version. as Jupe says, i dont either like all packaged stuff, i'd rather watch the Nature channel on tv.
but pinchbeck now has a nice reading audience of yuppies/pseudo hippies, and them folks love those types of packages, good for them and pinchbeck for selling his stuff!

basically, whenever i see talks of 2012 or such fluff, i yawn and turn to next page.
too much whishfull thinking, too many crystals = empty new age.
as mckenna said he "doesnt even believe in his own stuff, but hey, itd make a cool mathematical progam".
also, the whole burning man scene is another yawn to me. yeah, so i yawn a lot when i am bored. BM is cool and all, just too bad that some usa hipsters seem to think that its the only festival happening around the planet.

i do recommend his first book though. lets see how he developps after his fashionable 2012 crisis :P

ps: i was tuning into my hippie vibrations and i got a message from the akashic field as i was writing this message!
fantastic news: pinchbeck book will sell real good :P  :D

here is for more stuff on his book:

come on!! Graham Hancock wrote a review of it!!! it must be a serious book man!!!!! LOL

i'd give his new book a chance simply from respect for his first work...i dont know that 2012 is the end, dont know that it isn't...it does seem that history is accelerating, but then again it's hard to step outside of the moment fully enough to see what field we live within...

on a personal note, i see so many sleepwalking drones in my daily life, following whatever fashion blows by, that a man thinking and writing about and putting out ideas about the dovetail of science and mysticism and history, especially if his ideas are his own, appeals to me greatly...of course, the key is well-developed original ideas...but pinchbeck impressed me the first time out as one ambitious enough to seek this level of imaginary discourse...

i do agree, that its cool that someone like pinchbeck writes stuff for a certain type of somewhat mainstream audience. it is cool knowledge to keep around, for sure.

though, personally, i havent felt any desire to check out his new work yet, since i am generally not too much into that type of compilation types writings. i'll wait for his next work maybe.

his second is a serious slump...
but what else can you expect?
I remember my first entheogenic experience
It was beautiful
but my second (and third, fourth) time around
only made it redundant

He needs another blow to the head
But I do admire his effort

There was nothing, nothing off putting in Breaking Open the Head
tons and tons off putts in 2012
if anyone wants my copy lemme know ill mail it out for free...

Hancock's Supernatural was bloated... but at least an effort is there to explore and I admire that.

I think Dale Pendell's books hit the nail on the head a bit better, but I will give his books a spin =)

Does he do much research?  Or are his books more like personal essays?  or reports of his personal discoveries?

Dale Pendell? Never really resonated. I like Daniel Pinchbeck's  books, though.  Really insightful, and accurate.
