Looks like great catches there.


Panaeolus subbalteatus is one I love to find scattered all over the abandonned farm i hunt on.

At the right time of the year in this area we find alot of Panaoelus varieties on "dung"ed out areas(farms)  but not in nature(forests-lawns) for it is the very northern hemisphere, Subbalteatus is my favorite of the Panaoelus with its rings.

Very nice photograph of the Panaeolus subbalteatus.This shroom has three main habitatts; In this order

Rotted hay,
Dung,
and last, new enriched feritilized lawns.

In the PNW, Especially Seattle, it can be found all year long if the temperatures do not go to freeze or below.

In the city itself, I have picked a few pounds of this mushroom in Dec, Jan and Feb from gardens with woodchips where top-soil was laid out and woodchips put over the top soil.  The sproes came via the liquid fertilizers and in the freshly laid sod.

In Kent , Washignton I once found a few specimens in manure which wrote I later about in "Close Encounters of the Panaeolus Kind" and years later one large field of Panaeolus subbalteatus on cow maure pies up on Kula Highway on Maui near Poli Poli Road.

However, it was in Eugene, ORegon and Corvalis where they stacked hay bales (the large ones 4x4 bale size) 15 feet high and taller and two hundred yards long of bales of hay which they tarped and left covered during the winter months. In the spring, when the tarps were blown off during the rains, the shrooms grew prolifically and abundandtly throughout the manured compost.

We would also find them at riding stabels in th stable shavings and horse manure compost heaps and at racetracks. Thanks for sharing the cool image.

HI,

went and visited your shroom photos site and your Amanita site.
 few quick notes to you.
1. The Vikings berserkers and the use of Amanita mushrooms was disproven years ago. I have a pers. comm. from Dick Schultes about that matter.

Also in your shroom photos, those are not Galerina autumnalis, G. marginata or, G. venenata.

I have seem them before in the rainforests and in the Seattle arboretum in the fall.

Ya I wasnt sure 100 percent about the Gallerina statement , id love to find what they actually are. Good to hear an opinion on it actually, thanks!
Ther Red angels site is not mine btw, its Venus and Hawks. Some of my amanitya shots are featured on their site.

I dont remember stating anything about the Berserkers Amanita indulgements on my site, perhaps the Red angels website did??
It would be great to know what the opinion of Mr Schultes on the subject is for sure :wink:
