Hi everyone,

I just today got my first Salvia D. plant, and I think it was in awful condition!  It had been packaged well although it hasn't been getting any sunlight for a good few days I'm sure.  The guy cut half of some of the leaves, and after I took it out of the box it has started to droop quite heavily (and I've read thats bad).

The pot was awful too and the plant was moving about very loose.  I transplated it into a bigger pot with holes in the bottom, watered it until the plate below it filled slightly with water and misted the leaves every time they needed it. Thats basically as much as I know about Salvia

Its sunny today so I put it in direct sunlight for an hour or so and made sure it was misted when it needed it.

What do you all think of the plant?  I have taken two pictures of it below.  I would really appreciate any advice and comments on the plant, and how possibly I could help it get better.  I'm going to buy Miracle-Gro this week cause I read on the FAQ that its a good idea.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies to my cries for help! :D

It doesn't look too bad, really.  I wouldn't give it any direct sunlight, and don't over mist it either.  If you just put it into some new soil, don't use ANY miracle grow for at least a month.  Also, don't water it again until the soil dries up some.  You might put a stake in there for support.  Hope it recovers.

Thanks for the quick reply TooStoned!

I think I maybe was watering it too much! I've put a stick in like you've asked and I won't get no Miracle-Gro for a while.

I'll post some more pictures and comments on the plants growth to let you know how its doing. :D

Thanks again.

Heya,
Looks fine to me, just needs to acclimate is all. I'd keep it outta direct sunlight for a while and just let it get ambient light. U dont have to mist all the time and once acclimated they actually do fine without misting at all. Remember it doesnt like to go completely dry but overwater will cause rot. Good luck with your new friend! :)

Mine does best when I let it dry just to the point of drooping. The old line of keeping them wet all the time didn't work near as well.
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

Hey guys!

Thanks for taking an interest.  I've misted it once since I last posted and have not given it anymore water.  I've set it at my window, which I think is ideal for Salvia since it never fully gets the sunshine in my window!

The stick really helped, after 2 hours of keeping the plant upright with a stick it stood up by itself! The leaves look much better now too.  Heres a picture of what it looks like now!

Thanks for all your help.

Bright reflected light is Ok, no direct sun for awhile.  don't water it , as everybody has suggested, wait until it is almost bone dry, or rigth as it wilts again.  that could be two days, it could be two weeks.

Right now days are getting shorter,(northen hemisphere) and plants are in flowering cycle, so they sometimes have a hard time kicking into growing mode, people often add extra daylength hours to help the plants along.  They will grow OK, but  troubles can be harder to cure.
hmm..is the wind offshore yet?

Thats a real good tip Jupe.  I would put a small plant light on it with a timer to make sure it gets at least 14 hours of light a day.
