On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Paul Simon, Stranger to Stranger (2016) . . . Paul SImon's albums are a big & sudden treat every few years . . . they always seem like he took his time brewing them up, getting the sound & the lyrics & the feel of each song just right . . . new album is a familiar mix of the tender & the smartass & the wise . . . each listen opens up new crevices & pathways into its strange & fine lands . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Neil Young, *Freedom* (1989) . . . After spending the 1980s putting out all sorts of experimental, & not very good, albums, Neil Young returned to Reprise Records, where he had made so many good disks, & let this album come whispering & roaring out the door . . . NY sounds hungry again, wanting to make great & needed music, committed to it . . . I first heard this album on the radio, in full, as everyone was saying, "Neil's back!" . . . I was new to his music back then, but I loved being a fan's part of his renaissance . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 7 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems & *Bags End News* . . . & this week's featured artists are The Beach Boys, as we begin a weeks-long jaunt through their many years of music-making . . . been awhile since at the mic, wow ready to be back! :)

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Avett Brothers, True Sadness (2016) . . . These boys have put together another really great record . . . seems to emerge from a sad time of breakup, like Dylan's Blood on the Tracks or Beck's Sea Change . . . like those albums, beautiful, moving music . . . as KD says, they are so stinkin' talented . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album Redux: XTC, *Skylarking* (1986) . . . Last heard on the 12/19/2004 broadcast of this show, one of my very favorite albums, by one of my very favorite bands . . . tis a classic pop-rock song-cycle, from the burst into life's light to the shrivel into fire . . . an old friend of mine, managed a bookstore-record store back when, labeled this album thusly: "For those awaiting the next Beatles, here they are, wait no more" . . . amen . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 7 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems & *Bags End News* . . . & this week's featured artists are The Beach Boys, as we continue a weeks-long jaunt through their many years of music-making . . . fucking hot this week, nights a panting relief, glad this show is on late . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Felice Brothers, *Live in the Dark* (2016) . . . New record by this New York Americana band, who started out playing on subway platforms in New York City . . . pretty, rocking, charming, funny . . . & these boys can play up a storm when of a mind to do so . . . an album more than worth its time in pleasure . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Rusted Root, *Welcome To My Party* (2002) . . . Pittsburgh band once previously featured on this show . . . this album has a kind of passionate funk to it that is irresistible . . . it's a sweet record, rooted in acoustic delights & Michael Glabicki's beautiful voice . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 8 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems & *Bags End News* . . . & this week's featured artists are The Beach Boys, as we continue a weeks-long summertime jaunt through their many years of music-making . . . still hot, still humid, still too dry in New England . . . I understand now what snowless winters mean in a way I never did before . . .
