*New Rock Album: The Donkeys, *Born With Stripes* (2011) . . . This California band sounds both classic & contemporary, their music sometimes swamped happily in a late '60s vibe, but not in a retro or ironic way . . . simply put they make music like this year is 1967 on & on & on & on . . .

*Classic Rock Album: Camper Van Beethoven, *Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart* (1987) . . . What a freaking miracle of an album to have come out while Ronald Reagan was still vaguely president . . . mad swirls of fiddles among nutty rock guitars and songs about terrorists, cowboys, et cetera . . . funny & serious as hell . . . nearly 25 years after its release, it's still better than most anything before or since . . .

*Storybook Time: Continuing Chapter Fifteen of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist is Turquoise, a cult UK band, friends of the Kinks, some delightful old-timey pop nuggets . . . simply put: wonderful to be back after a needed break . . . here goes the summer run of shows . . .

*New Rock Album: Avi Buffalo, *Avi Buffalo* (2010) . . . First of two California bands featured on this episode, Avi Buffalo is strange and charming, trippy in an often Shins-y kind of way . . . songs of love, desire, loneliness, a flow not quite like any other, a powerful sweetness at work . . .

*Classic Rock Album: Toad the Wet Sprocket, *Coil* (1997) . . . Another great 90s band, one I've finally given some good listening attention to . . . this album was their 5th & last, & what a way to go out . . . they rock brilliantly, their lyrics are as deep as elliptical, their passions in every note played and sung, a lovely, fine work . . . and happily for their old and newer fans, the band is back together and touring and making a new album . . .

*Storybook Time: Chapter Seventeen of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist is Queen, some of their early monster hits . . . I keep learning that if the world isn't its loveliest in your view, turn your head, or change your mind . . .

*New Rock Album: White Denim, *D* (2011) . . . Some say this Austin band sounds like the Grateful Dead, because they jam, but then add they don't jam *too* much as though this is a compliment . . . their vibe is old-school rock and roll, but they're playing for the new century, & really finely . . . oh, and fuck you to the jam band haters . . . enough is NEVER enough . . .

*Classic Rock Album: Paul Revere & the Raiders, *Collage* (1970) . . . a band that made some really good music but never gained much of the respect they deserved . . . this album is a heavy sonic snapshot of its time, and a really good one . . . worth more than one listen for sure . . .

*Storybook Time: Chapter Seventeen of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist is Coldplay, and cuts from their excellent new EP, *Every Tear is a Waterfall* . . . Well blast my soul if I ain't gonna be jobless again soon . . . maybe a chance to get the next one right finally?

*New Rock Album: Arctic Monkeys, *Suck It and See* (2011) . . . Saw this English band a few years ago at the Sasquatch Festival near Seattle, didn't like them much, too much snot, not enough rock . . . but their new album is really good, musically tight & various, lyrically solid, sometimes subtle & lovely . . . fine stuff . . .

*Classic Rock Album: Steeleye Span, *Parcel of Rogues* (1973) . . . Wow, this English folk-rock group has it all, excellent players & singers, great material, a jaunty, high spirited jamming vibe . . . listen & you will be very charmed too . . .

*Storybook Time: Chapter Seventeen of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist is Alison Krauss & Union Station, lucky enough to see them this past week . . . some great cuts from this bluegrass band full of virtuoso players . . . another job of mine has endeth . . . put best this way, as a buddy said, one door closes, another window opens . . .
