it's not that i hold a grudge
walk the walk
or change the tune

i don't mean to be vegetarian
but offer me fish
and i think eyes
talk about meat
and i see cow
wear leather
and i smell my own brother

i don't mean to be
but i am
and i remain
firmly indebted to green

succulently attracted to leaves
pleased with vinaigrette
delighted with sesame
curry and roots

so don't ask for reasons
footnotes or volumes
i offer you a slithering slide into clover
a breathtaking fragrance of mint
a roll in dewy grasses

i offer you a graze
in a brown rice symphony
a sip of fresh water
in a sunny clearing
a long lost turn
off a forgotten highway

a well-fed cabbage patch
in a land of low-slung days
