we need a 'report post' or something to get automatic attention to spam bots. There's a slew of sophisticated bots roaming the net these days.

Thanks roach.
Yes judih, we've been getting heaps of registrations from them and most don't get authorised so they can't spam the site. I don't know how I let that one slip through.

Cassie, i know how it is. i've been amazed how fast they sign on, activate themselves and post on another site. deleting them becomes a constant task. But now a new admin has devised a screening device that has worked great for the past few hours that it's been in effect.

Hopefully, the spam bots shall be left helplessly outside the door.

Cassie has been doing a great job keeping the 'bots out. I would say just make a post here when you detect spam and one of us will get on it. Keeping spam out of a board is like keeping weeds out of your garden. You just have to keep pulling them up and tossing them away.

We could require them to write a paragraph about their interests when submitting an application. That would help weed out the mindless bots from the people who may have picked a bot sounding name. They aren't going to write an original paragraph for each application unless they are real.

ok, this is not really about SPAM, but its about another type of SPAM.

Not to be a bitch, or anything, but as part of the New Year's resolution, i'd like to take the effort at not trying to spare poeple's feelings, and actually mention what's on my mind. In the end, i hope this will save me as well as  others some valuable time.

My comment for this forum:
I gets not only really annoying but also unpractical in the long run, to have people start a new thread every time they want to say something.
I know having ones name on the forums index page is ego boosting, cool and all, but in reality, it's just lame, and i find it disruptive to actual attempts at conversations.

So, to those that love starting a new thread for every new fart, and yes, you know who you are, please refrain from being that selfish, that'd be real cool.
Since i am still a mod in the radio forum, please watch out, cause i might bite the next one that starts a new thread for their stuff when 100 other threads already exist.

Speaking of speaking one's own mind..... I've found that attempting to control what, how and where others post is a complete waste of time that tells more about the person trying to control the flow of info than it does about the posters in question.

This place has been dead for as long as its been up. I welcome each new thought, post and thread. You might too, if only you were to realize that saving the world means fixing yourself.

The warrior's approach
is to say "yes" to life:
"yea" to it all.

Participate joyfully
in the sorrows of the world.

We cannot cure the world of sorrows,
but we can choose to live in joy.

When we talk about
settling the world's problems,
we're barking up the wrong tree.

The world is perfect. It's a mess.
It has always been a mess.

We are not going to change it.

Our job is to straighten out
our own lives.....

Our death is our wedding with eternity.
What is the secret? "God is One."
The sunlight splits when entering the windows of the house.
This multiplicity exists in the cluster of grapes;
It is not in the juice made from the grapes.
For he who is living in the Light of God,
The death of the carnal soul is a blessing.
Regarding him, say neither bad nor good,
For he is gone beyond the good and the bad.
Fix your eyes on God and do not talk about what is invisible,
So that he may place another look in your eyes.
It is in the vision of the physical eyes
That no invisible or secret thing exists.
But when the eye is turned toward the Light of God
What thing could remain hidden under such a Light?
Although all lights emanate from the Divine Light
Don't call all these lights "the Light of God";
It is the eternal light which is the Light of God,
The ephemeral light is an attribute of the body and the flesh.
...Oh God who gives the grace of vision!
The bird of vision is flying towards You with the wings of desire.

And Joe Campbell
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

I know, it's nuts of me to post on an old(er) thread, but I think this thread is so great.  :D

Satori, dead on funny!

LW, truer words were never spoken (or typed)...

Thanks for posting the Campbell and Rumi! If'n you don't mind, I'd like to take a whack at that myself:

"It is as if a king had sent you to a country to carry out one special, specific task.  You go to the country and you perform one hundred other tasks, but if you have not performed the one task you were sent for, it is as if you performed nothing at all.  So man has come into the world for a particular task, and that is his purpose.  If he doesn't perform it, he will have done nothing.  - Rumi"
