Been a couple of years since these pretty folkie Canadian rockers were featured on this show, back with a lavish dish of banjos, fiddles, guitars, and all sorts of wanting, wishing, obscure and plain lyrics . . . what a treat . . .

*Classic Rock Album*: Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, *Against the Wind* (1980) . . . Seger's one of a kind, when young had a trouble getting a record deal because nobody could quite figure him out . . . this album finds him doing what he does best, yearning the past, laughing and crying a little at the varieties of the human condition . . . and rocking out fine like it matters more than anything . . .

*Storybook Time*: Continuing Epilogue to *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist is Deer Tick and their delightful recent EP, *Tim* . . .  rainy June weekend, cool & fine . . . music laying its balm as always . . .

*New Rock Album*: The Brian Jonestown Massacre, *Aufheben* (2012) . . . It's been half a decade since this California band was on this program, and that was with their 2003 album *This is Our Music* . . . their new album is flat out great, a kind of tribal, ambient, psychedelic melange of songs, each tastes good, and the better for hearing them all . . .

*Classic Rock Album*: Phish, *Farmhouse* (2000) . . . This is my favorite Phish record, it is perfect from start to finish, & its songs are great to hear in concert too . . . some fans of the band think they are best only live, in fact, but I would argue that they approach their album-making very seriously, & great results like this are a result of devotion to art & craft, nothing random in it . . . high, inspired work . . .

*Storybook Time*: Continuing Epilogue to *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artist is the little known or remembered Misunderstood, a mid-to-late '60s California band with a deep underground reputation . . . facing another jobless period soon, trying my best to carry on with the good work, & keep the deep music churning well . . .

Not like any other band you will hear, Hope Sandoval & David Roback produce a dark, dreamy landscape of evaporating figures & lingering wants . . . this was their second album, & produced the hit song "Fade Into You" . . . the full reward is in taking the whole record in . . .
