Any fans of the Sons?  Now that Bill has quit his day job as the singer for Chicago, the Sons are more active than they have been in years. Coming to venue near you, plus Bill has his own tours with his son.

Growing up, I saw them many times, they played in Sacramento all the time. Their great playing and brilliant arrangements made a huge impact on my young brain, they were incredibly skilled and sophisticated when even the best of the SF bands(Grateful Dead, Big Brother, airplane, Quicksilver) were still trying to figure out how to play electric rock and roll.

Their lead guitar player Terry Haggerty was really THE proto fusion guitar player, in Mr Garcia's words he combined the ideas of jazz with a rock sound. Definitely an unsung hero in the evolution of electric guitar playing. Another big fan was Carlos Santana. I got to meet him(haggerty) and hang out for the better part of an afternoon, great guy!!He had some great stories of the Haight St era. He was neutralized by epilepsy for many years, finally he got the right meds and resumed his career.

They still embody the spirit of that era. When i saw em a while back Bill sang to the tune of the Archie Bunker theme:

All the songs Garcia played
I got crabs and I got laid
There's acid in the lemonade
Those were the days

I love the Sons of Champlin and long may they play!!!
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling
