Read in the paper this morning that Don Kirshner of "Don Kurshner's Rock Concert" fame, died recently. The guy was certainly an influence on my musical life. New things reached our corner of the prairie slowly. There was something of a (counter) cultural void.  I was 10 when his concert series on network television started in 1972 and remember watching faithfully. For a few years, Don K's shows and late night listening sessions with K-A-A-Y out of Little Rock was as good as it got for me.

Thanks, Don Kirshner.

Kirschner and the Midnight Special--real live rock concerts on TV!!!!
Waited all week......
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

Ahh, brings back great memories of sonic journeys.  Liked Midnight Special well enough to find myself curtailing "certain nefarious research projects",  until times coincided ..  KAAY!! Ha, we used to get it at 11pm.  Rode around in an old beater 60 Valiant and cracked up listening to Jaime Brockett doing his great song 'Wreck of the Titanic....  Sorry to see 'da Don pass...
