And as usual L E A P come out shining. The arrogance of the prohibitionist crusaders is mind blowing.

Cognitive Liberty:  Think About It!!

If you are in the US you can attend one of LEAPs many talks / events or if there are none locally to you get together with some pals and invite them to speak at your school or college or event etc. Its heart breaking to listen to these guys speak with such authority but also with such humility - can you imagine having to live with yourself after a lifetime of locking people away for no good reason? The war on (some) drugs is slowly ending and when its finally over I think we are all going to be shocked as to who has the deeper wounds...

I think all botanicals should be 100% legal in their living and dried forms and legal to use within one's own home or on one's personal property.

Other than that... the government can do what it wants...

Thats right heroin users and meth heads... I don't like you!

JRL

So Teo, does that make you any better than any prohibitionist??

My belief is my body, my choice. Most of the problems with hard drugs are because of the laws against them.

Need I remind you :"Don't knock the way the other cat swings"

Truer words were never spoken. I'm not sure why you think you know better than anyone. You really don't seem to have a clue as to who you are partying with.
a group of us, on peyote, had little to share with a group on marijuana

the marijuana smokers were discussing questions of the utmost profundity and we were sticking our fingers in our navels & giggling

I don't really party... so....

I think the drug war is a complete failure, but I still don't want to see drugs like heroin and cocaine legal and freely used.

Stonehenge

Both coke and heroin are derived from plants. I don't use either one but they do have legit uses. In Holland where they legalized drugs including heroin (under supervision), they have less of a drug problem than we do.

I consider what we do here as a party, a party being a celebration of life.

I think you need to rexamine your drug nazi attitude, if'n ya wanna get along with all of us.

The major danger with coke and heroin is prohibition.

JRL

Teo, it is no secret around here that I struggled with drug problems most of my adult life(I'm solidly in recovery now).

So what you are saying is that I should be in prison??

I had no idea you used to do drugs and no I don't think you should be in prison.

I don't feel like going into my whole belief system, but basically I believe botanicals should be legal in their living and dried forms and people can use whatever drugs they want in their own home or on private property, but heroin would not be legal, meth labs would still be busted up, You can't traffic kilos of coke, etc.

I don't think anybody should ever go to prison for solely drug offenses, if they arent doing anything voilent or stealing anything, I think a simple fine is in order.

So I guess JRL I believe if you sold a couple pounds of Meth or whatever and made $1000s off junkies, you should be fined! But did you ever shoot anybody? Beat somebody to death with a metal pipe? Nope? Well then no prison!

JRL

Fines would have done nothing to stop my addiction, believe me.They just would have made me be more of an outlaw, because I shined on anything I could. I ended up with 7 failures to appear. I don't see how this all would help anyone.

It still sounds to me like you would still continue the war on users of some drugs.

Drug use should be a personal choice, drug abuse a medical rather than a legal problem.

Lets reset the argument to its logical beginning. Who decides what is ok to take and what will get you 'bust up'? Lets borrow the logic from the original article:
Quote5. We could empty all of our prisons out if we legalized other crimes such as rape and murder, but most people would find that insane.

This is the kind of logic I expect from Calvina. There are two kinds of crime:, malum in se and malum prohibitum. The former refer to an act that is "wrong in itself." It is illegal because it violates the natural, moral or public principles of a civilized society. No one in their right mind would propose legalizing a malum in se crime.

An offence malum prohibitum, on the contrary, is not inherently evil, but becomes so as a result of being forbidden; as ingesting substances, "which being innocent before, have become unlawful in consequence of being forbidden."

Source: //http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Malum+in+se

Ingesting drugs may be stupid and self-destructive. But neither the drugs nor the user are thereby rendered evilâ€"as are rapists and murderers. To confuse the two types of crime, to equate intoxication and rape tells us a great deal about the person making that claimâ€"but nothing useful about the crimes.

That vid rocks for so many reasons

I understand your point but disagree. The misuse of drugs should be a public health matter - not a legal or medical problem. We will arrive at this utopia after addressing the social model of disability (which goes a long way to explaining the bs faced by most powerless peeps)  :geek:
