Last week I sold our battery powered solid state amp and a new Dynaco ST 70 arrived today. This little retro/modern tube amp puts out about 22 watts in triode using 4 el-34 tubes.

I also sold the silverline mini-monitors last week. A new pair of 6.5" AlNiCo single driver speakers is being built as I type.

We've now migrated away from solid state gear and multi-driver speakers to low powered tube amps powering single driver speakers. All sources are routed through a Manley Stingray integrated amp and the Dynaco is strapped to the pre-out of the manley as well. Each room/system has a volume control but they can be played together or separately. The sweet spot for listening covers three rooms and can be moved by adjusting the volumes. Now its like wandering a concert hall in our house.

In the end, there is no comparison between the WAY more expensive solid state amp and the tubed Dynaco. The tubes sound more natural to my ear and present the highs in a much more detailed manner. And for less than half the price.  :smoke:3

Lost my boots in transit, babe,

Nailed a retread to my feet
and prayed for better weather...

It's so nice to hear of someone gaining such joy from things of a sonic nature...  Have a great journey sailing that easy chair toward the grand beyond... (remember to extinguish all combustibles prior to departure).......... :smoke2:
